Eastwood 175 Amp MIG Welder w/spool gun is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 204.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from exellent value for the price I recently purchased the mig 175 from EW. and found this welder everything they claim it to be. Weather you are welding vertical, horizonal, downhand or overhead this is a great little welder, It took a few adjustments to get the feel for this unit in out of position welding. I also like the fine tuning you can get which some of the other name brands do not have. Working in the industrail field for 41 years fabraciating food processing equipment this little unit is the easiest to use of all the little welders that are portable. The only thing I would like EW to design is a cover to keep the dust and grime off the unit when not in use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the Welder / Hated the Cart My welder was damaged. Not a mark on the Carton. Found the Face plate cracked, after opening the carton and removing the unit from the foam inner packing? Had to be damaged when packaged... Automated packing I guess? I live 40 miles From the Store so I called, and spoke with Ivan, and he was going to Ship a new unit ASAP. I added, I was not to impressed with the Cart. So I asked if I could pick up the Replacement, at the store. He said Come on down. He listened to my complaints on the cart, and got me an up-graded Cart, for my inconvience. Thanks Ivan, For........... DOING THE JOB RIGHT

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Gas Line Hookup Broke After using the welder about 5 times I heard a hissing inside of the welder when I turned on the gas. I found the plastic connection inside of welder that the air line plugs into was broke. This cant be simply fixed because it is molded into the plastic that houses the wire feed wheels. I tried calling Eastwood many times. I was always transferred to tech support and always put into a answering machine that said something like “All our techs are busy-tell us your problem, leave your name and number and we will call you back”. I left many messages but never got a call back. I don’t like flux core welding so I shelved the unit, lost hundreds of dollars and bought a different brand.

What amp generator would I need to run this welder

Asked by: Dchristensen
We do not recommend running this unit on a generator. It is a transformer based unit which requires constant power supply. Using a generator- at some point the unit will want to idle down and this will most likely fry the control board on the unit.

O30 wire on the spool gun keeps burning back up into the tip. The spool sounds like its pulling hard. Any quick fixes?

Asked by: Mud Thug
Bump the wire speed up, make sure there is not any unnecessary tension on the drive roller.

can this welder run with flux core for the mig gun and the spool gun

Asked by: Raven
Flux option would be through the standard torch only.

It seems that every bit of info I've read and heard on videos say that Helium is to be used as the shielding gas for welding aluminum. I don't see this mentioned in this post for the MIG 175. Is the 75/25 mix workable with the spool gun?

Asked by: Tightfit
I want to apologize for the dumb question, above, concerning using Helium as the shielding gas for aluminum. I got that mixed up with stainless steel. Stainless is the metal that requires a mixture that includes helium. I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

Is this an inverter or transformer welder?

Asked by: jack3675
This is good information to have. I recently learned that a transformer based MIG welder does not like having it's output adjusted while you are welding. You know...looking for that bacon sound; where an inverter based MIG is not bothered by it.

I just purchased the MIG 175 welder and would like to know if 208 VAC is alright to connect as the specification shows 210-240 VAC

Asked by: rlsscr
The stated 210-240 VAC is the operating RANGE within which this mig will comfortably operate. Should be no problem for your home's circuit. Just be sure to use the proper outlets and circuit breakers. I would suggest that you have a dedicated circuit for your welders from the service box to it's outlets. The same way that an electric stove should have.......NO junction box and no other appliance. That info comes from the electric company and the National Electric Code. I found this out when upgrading my parents' house from and old 60 amp service box to the more modern 240amp about 20 years ago.
