Safety Information

Always wear eye, skin and respiratory protection when painting. Follow label directions and consult MSDS for specific warnings.

Application Tips

Chassis Black auto chassis paint is a durable, high solids paint that can be applied to bare metal/primed surfaces. Chassis Black works great over bare metal, Chassis Black Primer, or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. Allow 15-20 minutes between coats. Recoating after 12 hours will preserve the same gloss level. After application, the object should dry overnight before use. For best results, use when can is between 70°F to 90°F, 50% or less humidity. DO NOT topcoat Chassis Black with Chassis Black more than 45 minutes after last coat as lifting may occur. DO NOT use Chassis Black over single-stage Self-Etching Primer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great paint Came back for more some 15yrs later. This paint held up very well. Resistant to chemicals, even brake fluid. Dries super hard and is very chip resistant. A true deep black in color and just the right sheen. Excellent in many respects.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good For The Price Bought this in lieu of epoxy paint/primer being in California not a whole lot of different choices. Laid this over scuffed rust encapsulator. Good coverage for the quart. With 2 1/4 quarts I was able to do the engine bay, dash and radiator support. Overall would buy again and suggest to other diy’ers.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not satisfied I used this to refinish the chassis on a bronco restoration and then to paint steel tables that I welded. If you follow the instructions and carefully prep and prime the areas to be painted, it goes on easy and looks flawless. However, it’s just not that durable. Even after several days of undisturbed curing after application, the paint is very easily scratched or marred. I would expect a chassis coating to be very durable. This is not. The extreme version yielded the same results.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only half Could not be more disappointed, the paint comes “pre-thinned” for spraying. Basically you get half of what you pay for and if you’re not spraying, it doesn’t cover well.

Can this be applied with a brush and if so what type of brush? I want it for areas under the car for touch up after encapsulator platinum. I'm working on jack stands without a spray booth.

Asked by: SeanF078
Yes, this can be applied with a brush. If doing so, we recommend using a foam brush to eliminate brush marks.

Should a clear coat be applied to this specific paint if used on running boards? If so, what clear coat is compatible with it?

Asked by: Terry
If applying this to an area consistently being subjected to sunlight then a clear should be applied over. Our 2k Clear would be best but our Diamond Clears would work too.

Is painting over rust encapsulator the same as painting over the primer? Or is it better to use rust encapsulator, scuff, chassis primer, then chassis satin black?

Asked by: Mike
If there is rust present, the Encapsulator can be used across the surface and act as your primer.
