Application Tips

  • Eastwood ExoArmour is a two-component formulation with some very unique properties which require special attention and handling during the mixing stage before application. When Part A and Part B are combined, they will initially repel each other as will oil and water. It may require up to 1 full hour of periodic stirring to fully become hydrolyzed. At this point the mixture will have an opaque, yellowish appearance. This is completely normal.
  • The Eastwood ExoArmour must be applied in a very thin film. A cured film thickness of 0.0003" is normal. If higher film thickness is desired, apply in multiple coats.
  • The surface to be coated with Eastwood ExoArmour must be thoroughly cleaned and completely free of any oily deposits, polishes or any type of surface contaminates. Use Eastwood #10041Z PRE, Pre-Painting Prep or a good quality acetone. Failure to do so will diminish the products’ ability to offer full protection.
  • Apply Eastwood Exo-Armour in temperatures above 70°F [21° C] and humidity less than 70%.
  • Eastwood Exo-Armour should be allowed to fully cure for 5 full days before subjecting film to abrasion or rough contact.
  • If Eastwood Exo-Armour must be removed, use chemical strippers or abrasive blasting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Holds up great on aluminum intake I purchased Exo-Armour about 5 years ago and used it to coat a new Aluminum intake manifold. Edelbrock intakes, when new, have a great as-cast silver color that I wanted to maintain. I cleaned and applied Exo-Armour exactly as instructed and it has held up beautifully. After 5 years, it still looks new. I simply clean the intake with simple green from time to time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Product quality and use. Product exceeds my needs and expectation in every way. I made a paint chamber and had beautiful results on polished copper. I honestly haven’t seen a single product that comes anywhere close, particularly with how it adheres to polished surfaces. I will say that it doesn’t appear to hydrolyze as exactly described in the instructions in the multiple times I’ve mixed it. It doesn’t get as opaque as I guess I expected, but the product works every time. I think Eastwood should sell a kit for mixing. I had to go to a hydroponics shop for syringes, measuring cups, and some tubing for extraction from the bottle. The only down side to the product would be how difficult it is to strip, and a lack of info on how stripping must be applied. Aircraft coating stripper is required, and I found objects need immersed for a complete strip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I covered just about everything! While doing my 7.2 yr. restoration, I knew I would be road tripping a lot & I did Not want to have to constantly clean & polish. When I found this stuff, I couldn't wait to try it! 4yrs. & 6k+ miles later, I have never had to polish anything,, and my new bare cast aluminum intake, still looks like new. Water drops on my valve covers, wipe right off with glass cleaner,, along with everything else! The secret is to have all of your items together & coat them all at once. I did everything under the hood with only one bottle(s). Getting ready to coat my new & highly polished set of slots for my 65 Stang.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product Follow the instructions to the letter and this product will deliver great results. I applied it with a detail spray gun, (.5mm tip). Two VERY light mist coats at a distance of 12-14 inches from the surface. It has the viscosity of water so it has to be sprayed like water....very light coats.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Did not have the problems of other reviewers I was hessitant because if its as tough as advertised and finish was bad, cant imagive how hard to take off to refinish. Many complained about instructions, well there are 2 sets; paper and on the bottle. The one on the bottle had a couple extra details. I followed the instructions and everything went well. Application is vey forgiving cause its like putting an oil finish on wood. Because my aluminum heads were bolted on, i used a combination of a flux brush (for holes and around head studs) and the supplied applicator. half batch did my sbc heads, braided trand and oil dipstick, distributor housing and brake mastr cylinder. Didnt seem to change the color or shean mutch at all. Lets hope its as tough as advertised. Only complaint is there is no prevision for mixing half batch. I was able to measure half on the outside of the bigger bottle, but the small one is a solid can. I ended up using a syringe to measue out half.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great I bought this to protect a piece of Stainless Steel that I was using to make a license plate holder. I sprayed this on with the Concours PRO detail gun and could not be happier with the results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Uneventful application, looks great. Application process went smoothly. I applied it to polished aluminum. Looks great! Time will tell if it stays bright and clear.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product I purchased this to clear coat my intake manifold. I looks great! It may have changed color a shade. once it dries who knows. If it doesn't yellow as Eastwood says... I couldn't be more pleased. I will definitely use this anytime I'm clear coating bare metal.

Can ExoArmour be use to increase corrosion resistance of part following your Tin-Zinc plating process?  For small parts, can they be dipped rather than sprayed?

Asked by: Jackson23
Scott C- Your answer says "While we do not recommend dipping the parts..." , but at the head of the page, under the title "Eastwood Exoarmour", is the statement - "Wipe on, spray or dip to protect bare metal, paint, fiberglass and more " Which is the more accurate answer?

Is this just an epoxy clear paint? Will it stick to cast iron manifolds that have been Jet Hotted? Does is dry shiny or matt?

Asked by: Impoverished restorer
This is a type of two part ceramic coating. It should stick to your manifolds as long as they have been thoroughly cleaned and degreased with acetone or our PRE painting prep low VOC. It gives a satin finish - it doesn't alter the look of the base part to a great degree. If you start with a glossy part it will remain fairly glossy.

I have a Jeep with a soft top. Would I be able to use this product on the vinyl windows to help keep them from getting scratched so bad when I roll them up?

Asked by: bob27
I do not believe it will keep your windows from getting scratched. Basically used on metal although it eliminates corrosion on all surfaces.

Could a pearl be mixed into the ExoArmour clear for application over a bare metal car? Trying to keep the bare metal look with a pop of color up close in the Sun.

Asked by: Fat Daddy
We have not directly tested this but it should not be an issue.

Can exoarmour be used to seal the inside of a brake master cylinder and keep it from rusting?

Asked by: george
We would not recommend using ExoArmour in an area that will be constantly submerged in brake fluid. While extremely resistant to solvents over extreme prolonged exposure such as submersion there can be effected on the product.

Im wanting to clear over sanded smooth bare cast steel differential covers; which would be best appropriate Exo Armor or diamond clear? Pros and cons between the two? How do they compare to POR15 DTM top coat?

Asked by: Shawn
Out of all 3 products referenced the Exo armour would by far be the most durable. It is a catalyzed clear that is invisible to the naked eye so you will not notice that its there.
