Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product-works well! I used this on some 56 Chevy sedan doors. I’ve used similar products in the past, and this works at least as well if not better. I had some more stubborn spots on a couple of the nooks in jamb areas, but I just let it work for a few minutes and reapplied more etching solution and it gradually just went away. I used dark maroon scotchbrite pads from a local paint store for application. Just cut a couple chunks off, fold them over once to allow the solution to soak in a little and get to work. You’ll know when it’s time to get a new one, the pads will eventually disintegrate… I allowed it to sit per the directions and used some disposable blue shop rags with copious amounts of acetone to clean it all off…only do the areas you’re prepared to do as the etching solution can evaporate and you’d have to reapply. When alls done, It leaves a hazy dullish gray finish on bare sanded steel. If you don’t get all the residue off, it’ll feel almost tacky to the touch. Now, if you’re not familiar with these types of chemicals, you need to Read the directions and the warnings-this stuff is acidic, so you have to wear some splash and skin protection. It also outgasses some noxious fumes like hydrogen sulfide (rotten eggs) during the conversion process, so ensure you have more than adequate ventilation or you’ll likely wind up with a headache. Oh-if you’re working on a large area or many panels, just buy the gallon and pick up a couple spray bottles from a local hardware store, it makes application a lot easier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Etch Media blasted a '50 Ford just prior to an accident and didn't get to primer the body. Fractured my knee and collapsed my L5 disc. A year later I'm still not back to normal but getting around a bit better. The Fast Etch and scotch brite pads ate away every bit of flash rust. Super happy with the result!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This stuff is great! I'm using this on my classic car that has been professionally stripped. I was not able to prime everything quickly due to health and some panels began getting surface rust and looking terrible. Just spray this on the rust and help it along with Scotch Brite pads. In just a few minutes the rust is gone and the area is a smooth gray finish. I use my painter's face mask and there is no smell at all.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saves on Elbow Grease-let Etch do all the labor! This rust remover works great. I use it on everything that has lots built up with rust which makes the job easier. Highly recommended for restoring items made of metal/steel. It worked great on my 17 year old Kenmore gas’s grill restoration project. Looks new again. 5⭐️‘s

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It actually works Fast Etch is the only rust inhibitor that I have ever used that actually works. Even on bare metal surfaces I have left for over a year, the metal is still rust free.

Questions & Answers

Do you have to apply the sealer in the gas tank after using this?

Asked by: Vthokies
Yes, the surface must be sealed after using the Fast Etch. The Fast Etch alone will not hold up. We sell this in a kit for such applications which can be found here: https://www.eastwood.com/gas-tank-sealer-kits-eastwood-gas-tank-sealer.html

I treated a panel with fast etch several months ago. Is it safe to weld on the same panel? If not, how do I remove the zinc phosphate coating left behind?

Asked by: cap10
Safe may not be the question. Remove the self etch at the area of the piece you want to weld

how long will it protect from rust before i have to paint

Asked by: frank
It will only remove rust not stop it. Once you’re finished with the rust dissolver, wipe the surface down with Eastwood PRE Painting Prep to remove any remaining loose rust. Then paint with rust encapsulator

I just had the bed of my truck completely sandblasted to bare metal, but unfortunately I wasnt able to get it primed before winter. Can I use this to prevent surface rust or is there something else I can apply to keep the rust off this winter.

Asked by: Brian
Get a quart of white rustoleum oilbased primer (for lite rust) .get sponge style rollers as well. Cut primer appropriately to max amount with approved product.states on label. Roll as much as possible and try to not double coat any areas.cover bed to avoid any rain and place fan or blower on tailgate to speed dry time. Once fully dry use foam brushes to apply primer to missed areas as rolling second coat primer with new sponges.use roller to cleanup and blend any runs or excess from foam brush.apply coat 3 if desired.wait a week b4 sanding for paint and 24 or 48hours(says on can)..AFTER SANDING to apply whatever finish. The sanded newly exposed primer must AIROUT n recure.. <very important. This is the best primer ....most universal with absolute adhesion and durability. Budget friendly and available any hardware store that sells paint. Also R.oleum brush black rust converter paint with half black car frame or something on picture is incredible.very thin product that also brush /roll on And is applied direct to exposed metal.dont prime. Dries to awesome matte like rubber coating that stays where applied...even after years Of tossing concrete tools ..smaller chunks Crete..dirt..gravel. Other products will fail. If desired etch with Muratic acid b4 hand and wash thoroughly After.

Is it advisable to use this fast etch on clean metal frame to etch it before applying your 2k epoxy primer? Or is better just to use pre paint prep only?

Asked by: Rsc2500
This really isn't intended for use on bare clean metal. If you want an etching AND protective agent for bare clean metal- our After Blast would be best.
