2. Solvent wipe with PRE or Acetone to remove oil, grease or other contaminants. Allow to dry thoroughly before coating.

3. Apply product when surface temp is between 40° Fahrenheit and 80° Fahrenheit with humidity from 10 to 75%. NOTE: assure moisture is not accumulating on the surface to be coated.

4. Apply 1 medium wet coat with bristle brush or roller assuring all cavities and areas of corrosion are covered.
NOTE: Product can also be thinned up to 20% with Xylene and spray applied with traditional HVLP gravity or siphon spray equipment, use a 1.4 minimum needle/nozzle

5. Product will be tack-free after 2 hrs.

6. If top coating: apply top coat after 4 hrs., or before 48 hrs.
NOTE: If a smoother surface finish is desired, product can be mechanically sanded with 320 grit before top coating.

Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dangerous! As much as 35% of the can consists of isocyanates. Because it's a 1-part product I assumed this wasn't even possible. If you want to spray this, more power to you, but be aware that the regular Rust Encapsulator doesn't contain isocyanates (at least when I checked the SDS). After spraying 3 cans, I've had severe allergy symptoms and a cough that won't go away for several days now, and I wore a fresh respirator (3m 6800 full face with an OV paint respirator) the entire time. I wish I would have been more careful and just ordered the regular Rust Encapsulator. I'm sure this product is great, but it should really only be used by professionals or extremely knowledgeable/prepared hobbyists in an outdoor setting. This stuff will make you sick if you don't know what you're doing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rust Encapsulator Plus The Rust Encapsulator Plus was used to protect a new Range Rover gas tank shield. It covered nicely with a paint brush. Strong odor required opening the window for fresh air.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rust Encapsulator 10 out of 10 highly recommend Rust Encapsulator Plus is like hot sauce, I put that stuff on everything! When it comes to heavy equipment that gets used every day in the Florida rain, mud and water, rust is part of life. Rust Encapsulator is the real deal. I have never used a product that covered and locked in rust while smoothing the finish and was so easy to apply. (with a roller) Admittedly the spray cans are ok for tight spaces or getting inside bolt heads or around nuts but the tips always clog (that’s why they give you two tips with a can this stuff is thick) and rolling it on with a small paint roller is 100% cleaner and easier and the product goes twice as far for your money. I did my entire excavator undercarriage, everything under the cab with 2 gallons and had some to spare. Cheap insurance and it looks awesome! I am doing all my excavator and loader bucket's next and recently used it on my quick coupler and any rust spots on my komatsu loader. Finally a product that does what it says and is easily paintable with a durable finish. 10 out of 10 highly recommend.

Can you paint over rust encapsulator? I am painting my core support which has minor surface rust. I’ve applied the spray rust encapsulator, but is it ok to spray paint over to color match the rest of my car?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, you can paint over Eastwood Rust Encapsulator. It is designed to act as both a rust-preventive coating and a primer, making it compatible with most topcoats, including lacquer, enamel, and urethane paints. For the best results, ensure the Rust Encapsulator is fully cured before applying your color-matching paint. This will help the topcoat adhere properly and provide a smooth, durable finish.

Do you have to thin it down to spray. If so what do you use to thin it

Asked by: Andy
Yes, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Plus can be thinned for spray application. It can be thinned up to 20% with Xylene. This allows it to be applied using traditional HVLP gravity or siphon spray equipment with a 1.4 minimum needle/nozzle. Ensure to clean the spray equipment immediately after use with acetone or lacquer thinner to prevent clogging.

Can I use this product on wrought iron railing on my front porch?

Asked by: Perk
Yes, you can use the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Plus on wrought iron railings on your front porch. This product is designed to be applied directly over rusted or clean metal surfaces, making it ideal for outdoor applications like wrought iron railings. It provides excellent corrosion resistance and can be applied by brush, roller, or spray. For best results, ensure the surface is properly prepped by removing loose rust and cleaning it with a solvent like PRE or acetone before application. Additionally, if the railing is exposed to direct sunlight, it is recommended to topcoat the Rust Encapsulator Plus for added UV protection.

Can this be applied in cold temperatures? Or must I wait until summer?

Asked by: LTLiden
The Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Plus can be applied in cold temperatures, as long as the surface temperature is between 40° Fahrenheit and 80° Fahrenheit and the humidity is between 10% and 75%. It is important to ensure that moisture is not accumulating on the surface to be coated during application. Therefore, you do not necessarily need to wait until summer, but you should ensure the conditions meet these requirements for optimal application

I would like to use this on a GM truck frame with the factory wax coating. Do I need to bring the frame down to bare metal for good results?

Asked by: Jacoxr100
Yes, for the best results when using a rust encapsulator, it is recommended to bring the frame down to bare metal. The rust encapsulator needs to adhere directly to the metal surface to effectively seal and protect it from further rusting. Any existing coatings, such as wax, paint, undercoating and etc. can prevent proper adhesion and compromise the performance of the product.
