Description

True acid-etching formula sticks to virtually any clean, bare, rust-free metal to improve adhesion and durability of most non-epoxy top coats.

  • Lacquer-based, single-stage formula requires no catalyst
  • Enhances Adhesion and Durability of Most Non-Epoxy Top Coats
  • Adheres to Steel, Stainless, Aluminum and chrome
  • Great base for high-build primers
  • Withstands up to 170 degrees F
  • Available in Easy to Use Aerosol Cans or Economical quarts and gallons

This easy to use primer etches and primes bare, rust-free metal in one step. Adheres to steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel and is compatable with virtually any paint or auto finish. The aerosol self-etching formula bonds better to bare metals than other aerosol primers. It is also a single-stage formula which requires no catalyst, making it even easier to use. Self Etch Primer is also available in Gray.

If you're sanding primer or body filler you have to check out the Eastwood Elite Contour DSB Dustless Sanding Block System that gives you laser straight panels while keeping you and your shop clean because it eliminates 95% of the sanding dust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epoxy Primer over Etching Primer? The etching primer is an excellent product. The only draw back is that you can not apply epoxy primer over the etching primer.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great primer, hard to sand Excellent, tough primer but doesn't wet sand too easily

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Flaked off after 1 week I used this product to prep a new chrome exhaust tip for high heat paint also purchased from Eastwood. I followed the instructions explicitly and discovered yesterday that after a week the paint and primer has flaked off in a large section. Very disappointing.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good not great Work in 90% of my bumper. It did peel off in a few spots. I did prep the bumper with sandpaper and cleaned with alcohols wipes.

Questions & Answers

Hello, can this be applied over rust encapsulator platinum and under extreme chassis black gloss?

Asked by: Brandon F
I usually do not use Etch primer on a newly clean surface. I then use Encapsulator, then epoxy primer then topcoat

what are the cure times for this primer? How long should it flash cure before spraying a second coat of the primer? i will put 2k ceramic chassis black over top, how long should the second coat of primer cure before spraying the chassis black?

Asked by: 92broncobuilder
Allow the final coat of Self Etching Primer to dry for a minimum of 3-4 hours before dry sanding, or 15 minutes before wet sanding with #400 grit sandpaper. Do not use near open flame. Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures.

What size nozzle should be used and at what pressure?

Asked by: tbird55
A 1.4-1.5mm nozzle would work well and we recommend regulating your air pressure at a regulator attached to the bottom of your paint gun between 25-30psi.
