  • Enhances Adhesion and Durability of Most Non-Epoxy Top Coats
  • Adheres to Steel, Stainless, Aluminum and chrome
  • Great base for high-build primers
  • Withstands up to 170 degrees F
  • Available in Easy to Use Aerosol Cans or Economical quarts and gallons

This easy to use primer etches and primes bare, rust-free metal in one step. Adheres to steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel and is compatable with virtually any paint or auto finish. The aerosol self-etching formula bonds better to bare metals than other aerosol primers. It is also a single-stage formula which requires no catalyst, making it even easier to use. Self Etch Primer is also available in Gray.

If you're sanding primer or body filler you have to check out the Eastwood Elite Contour DSB Dustless Sanding Block System that gives you laser straight panels while keeping you and your shop clean because it eliminates 95% of the sanding dust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Epoxy Primer over Etching Primer? The etching primer is an excellent product. The only draw back is that you can not apply epoxy primer over the etching primer.

Questions & Answers

what are the cure times for this primer? How long should it flash cure before spraying a second coat of the primer? i will put 2k ceramic chassis black over top, how long should the second coat of primer cure before spraying the chassis black?

Asked by: 92broncobuilder
Allow the final coat of Self Etching Primer to dry for a minimum of 3-4 hours before dry sanding, or 15 minutes before wet sanding with #400 grit sandpaper. Do not use near open flame. Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F (21°C) and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures.

It will not. Our Black paint is perfectly fine to be applied over gray primer as you normally would.

What size nozzle should be used and at what pressure?

Asked by: tbird55
A 1.4-1.5mm nozzle would work well and we recommend regulating your air pressure at a regulator attached to the bottom of your paint gun between 25-30psi.

Can this etching primer be sprayed over prepped paint and milled aluminum wheels? I want to paint my black and milled wheels all black with your 2k satin black wheel paint.

Asked by: Ryan H
Self-Etching primer should be applied on bare metal only and should not go over existing paint.

The optiflow primer states: Once the primer is applied, not to expose the vehicle to moisture or humidity as it can be absorbed into the primer. Does self-etching primer absorb moisture easily? I need to drive the vehicle while its in primer.

Asked by: Sup74
This is Self Etching primer not Opti flow. Out of our Optiflow primers- we have 2 options: Urethane and Epoxy. Epoxy seals off from moisture but Urethane is a high build and will absorb moisture. However, neither primer should be exposed to moisture or humidity before it is fully cured.
