Eastwood Fast Etch Rust Remover with pump 32 oz

Product Overview:

Description

This specially formulated rust remover is a powerful, rust-fighting liquid created to meet the needs of auto restorers. It reaches even inaccessible areas, quickly dissolving iron oxide completely and leaving a zinc phosphate coating. Fast Etch can be sprayed, brushed, or used as a parts dip. It is non-toxic, non-flammable and reusable. This is not a primer. Treated surfaces should be wiped with PRE Painting Prep (10041 Z) or thinner before priming and painting.

Application Tips

Eastwood Fast Etch is a Phosphoric acid solution that leaves behind a corrosion resistant coating. Removes rust in seconds to several hrs. depending on temp. and severity of rust. One pt. treats about 20 sq ft. Our rust remover works faster at 90 deg F than at 70 deg F. Fast Etch does not remove paint but may cause discoloring. Remove loose rust & degrease surface with PRE Painting Prep (10041 Z) before using rust remover. After removing rust, wipe down part with PRE Painting Prep (10041 Z) and top coat with Self Etching Primer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast Etch Rust Remover on bare metal parts. Great Fast Etch Rust Remover. I used it with a green scotch bright on light surface rust and it looks like a new part. I also take off heavy rust and then spray Fast Etch Rust Remover to get any pits of rust left over. Good stuff...wish shipping was free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works As Advertised Saw this product tested in a YouTube video by a channel I trust - Conquer Customs. Tried it, works as advertised. I'm welding new sheet metal rear quarters on a 1959 El Camino. The new metal sat in a box in my shop for a while (of course) and the parts were lightly rusted. Eastwood Fast Etch removed the surface rust in minutes, if not seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from good product Removes the surface rust for sure. On the heavier, deeper pits it's not as effective but with a wire wheel it works. Still not sure what effect the white haze left behind will have on epoxy, I neutralized it with acetone as instructed and put the epoxy over it. I'm letting it sit for a few months to see if the epoxy adheres well.

Questions & Answers

How low temperature can Fast Etch be used? Can it be used over winter months.

Asked by: Donald
Fast Etch works best at temperatures above 70°F but not exceeding 100°F. It works faster at 70°F compared to 50°F and can be heated up to 100°F for even faster rust removal. It just won't work as fast in the colder temps.

How long does this product typically last once applied?

Asked by: Impala 62
There are too many variables that play in to determine this. If stored in a controlled environment indoors; we have had people have this on for weeks to months without issues.

I plan using internal frame coating on my SUV frame(body on). Used magnet/cable to effectively/tediously remove loose scale rust via frame holes, & pressure washed (w/ soap). How do I remove more internal surface rust? Do not want to just paint over it .

Asked by: RS470NE
No prep work is required prior to applying the internal frame coating. Just ensure the surface is dry before applying.

Asked by: talreli
Yes Eastwood's Fast Etch(19416) can be used to remove rust from brake disks. You should wipe the rotor faces off with Eastwood's Pre Paint Prep(10041Z) before using the disks on the car.

doing a body off restoration. Car is in pieces/ sections and sanded, chemically stripped to bare metal. Used fast etch to keep the shell from flash rusting, its been on for about 3 months. Can I just sand it back to bare metal before I add body filler?

Asked by: JimL
Yes you can just sand it back to bare metal then body work and prime or you can wipe it down with Eastwood's Pre Painting Prep(10041Z) or a thinner Before body work and priming.

Repainting old trailer. Is it necessary to remove all of the old paint before I use Fast etch? Understand might damage paint but not concerned about that as I intend to prime and paint entire unit. Concerned with future adhesion of primer.

Asked by: Joe1977
If you are not removing all of the old paint, limit the exposure of Fast Etch to any existing paint. Once you are done with the Fast Etch, you will want to wipe down areas with paint with PRE really well and also scuff sand to accept your primer.
