Eastwood Acrylic Silver Cad Lacquer Paint Recover Aerosol 12 oz

Application Tips

The Silver Cad Aerosol duplicates the bright cadmium plating used on many cars from the 50's on. This Eastwood Exclusive is a one step process that saves time and money over actual plating costs. Silver Cad is an acrylic lacquer, covers 6 sq ft, and withstands up to 250 degrees F. Apply to clean bare metal surfaces, or over our Self Etch Primer (16014 Z) for greater durability. For a dull cad look, try our Aluma Blast Aerosol (10109 Z).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent paint Excellent paint. Exact duplicate for a Ford paint. This paint though does not spit or spatter. Very happy with this paint.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from SILVER CAD Replication Coating I purchased one can a few months ago and sprayed my Classic Chevy gas tank after I sand blasted it. The outcome was superb. The paint sprayed evenly and consistent during the application. I was so happy that I purchased 3 more cans for other pieces that I want to enhance on the Chevy. DT Bowen

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great finish I needed to restore the look of my 1955 Chevy jack stand and so I used the Eastwood Silver Cad paint. After cleaning the jack stand and hitting it with a self etching primer I sprayed it with the silver cad paint. The paint went on very smoothly and looks perfect. I will use it on other parts to restore the cad look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected after a test spray on scrap I needed to refinish some partially rusty 64yr old cad plated seat adjuster rails. Long story short for a variety of reasons, decided to try this. Wire wheeled a rusty pitted fan blade to do a test spray on and thought it looked pretty much like aluminum paint after applying a wet coat. Went ahead and did a full prep on the rails and decided to try this anyway. Applied a very light coat and was immediately impressed. Huge difference between rough metal test spray and the smooth rails. If anything the color was a touch more bluish than the original cad, strikingly more cad looking than the almost aluminum metal flake look on the old fan blade. Hard to believe two such different colors came out of the single can I bought. A second light coat finished them off very nicely. 5 stars because they look great and I don't know how the heck I could've ever had these plated while all riveted together with captive ball bearings between the sliders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OE type of look for little money Purchased 2 cans to help with cleaning up a 1949 Indian model 149 motorcycle. This machine has the original factory paint, but many of the cad plated parts had the coating worn off in many places or in poor shape. The Eastwood cad paint was very close, not exact, but very convincing in appearance. It really made the bike look nice. On this model machine, even the wheels were cad plated, and I got quite a bit of coverage out of 2 cans, and I still have some left for touch up of bolt heads etc. Thanks Eastwood.

Questions & Answers

I am curious the resistance to this paint peeling with gasoline direct contact. Will this coating survive this environment? It’s going in the fuel cap of a motorcycle. Thank you.

Asked by: Nnm1
This coating does not really offer fluid resistance. It would be best to top coat this with the 2k Gloss Clear found here: https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-s-2k-aerospraytm-high-gloss-matte-clear.html

I am restoring a 1935 Indian motorcycle and am looking for a product to duplicate the cad plating that was done on many of the smaller parts. Chrome paint is too shiny, aluminum paint is too dull. Will your Cad paint have that satin slightly gloss finish

Asked by: Gabor
Silver Cad has a 40-50% gloss level, so I believe it should give a finish similar to what you are looking for. As you work on your Indian, we'd love to see some pictures of it.

What do you recomend for a '65 Bonneville grill? The chome fronts on these are fine. The interiors seem to be a matt grey or matt aluminum type paint over the chrome. It is these sections that I want to keep looking as original as possible. Thanks.

The Aluma Blast would probably be your best option for this application: https://www.eastwood.com/ew-aluma-blast-paint-aerosol-12-oz.html

I'm working on some original seat frames out of a second gen Camaro. They're pretty rusty, would the cadmium, detail gray, or clear zinc paint be my best bet for an original look?

Asked by: Lyndmc
After you treat the seat frame with Rust Enacapsulator our Detail paints are an excellent way to revive those original looks.
