Questions & Answers

i purchased your 4:1 tropical sunset orange pearl basecoat automotive paint, and i love the color, but i would like to apply a little more bling to the appearance of the color, can i mix your silver halographic flake to the color? and then clearcoat ?

Asked by: CATMANDO
YES, Metallics and Pearls are especially a problem as they tend to settle in the cup while you are spraying. you may want to add ITEM # 58176ZP BRAND: EASTWOOD Eastwood Metalli-Flow Metallic Paint Enhancer $43.99 Use of this additive will make the finish of the cured paint appear satin/matte so it is recommended to Clear Coat when using this product, even though it’s being added to single stage. I would only recommend this product if the customer is painting a special vehicle with a custom single stage color.

Anyone know where this "Product information sheet" Eastwood claims you should see for application tips, is located? They certainly didn't think it necessary or even reasonable to link it on this page, that much is for sure, nor anywhere easy to find.

Asked by: TerribleWebsiteDesigns
We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience. We do not have Product Information sheets for our flake/pearl additives. Typically a 50gr container of this is added per gallon of paint or clear being mixed into. If you have any further questions please feel free to reach us directly in Tech. We can be reached by emailing tech@eastwood.com

I would like to add the flake to caliper paint and apply it. Would there be an issue using the flakes on calipers or in heat resistant paint?

Asked by: Becca
The flakes could be used for this application but the pearls would not be able to be.

Can these flakes be used with resin? I want to use them on a tabletop made of wood that I’m resin coating. If they will work, should I mix them with the first layer of resin or sprinkle them on top of the first layer?

Asked by: John
I would say to mix it in the first coat assuming you are using clear epoxy on the wood. The issue that can arise when sprinkling flakes on top of a coat of epoxy is that the ones that land at angles stick up potentially more than your top coat will cover smoothly.
