Oil Eater cleaner and degreaser is specially formulated to be safer than old style petroleum based solvent cleaners. Its specially developed chemistry allows it to lower the surface tension of water for better cleaning, while its non-petroleum solvents dissolve oil based dirt and grime. The unique properties of Oil Eater keep the dirt and oil in suspension so they get rinsed away, instead of just being pushed to a different spot on the surface. The highly alkaline nature of Oil Eater breaks up organic and petroleum based oils. Works super for stains in the driveway, engine compartment degreasing, chassis cleaning, and grease stains on your laundry. Dilute it and use it in your Eastwood parts washer, ultrasonic cleaner or pressure washer too.

Works Great in Parts WasherI was skeptical if this would work cleaning automotive parts. Let me tell you, it worked great. Doing a Valve job on a 3.8L engine, this cleaner far exceeded my expectations. My mix ratio was 5 parts water to 2 parts cleaner. I heated the cleaner up to 110 degrees F. which helps with its effectiveness. It smells like lemons and the cleaner is still good, even after it's dirty.

Is product appropriate to clean oil based air filter-56 Studebaker .Golden Hawk
Asked by: Hawk56
I don't believe so. I would look into something like a K&N oiled-filter cleaner.

Can this product be used to clean oil stains off a painted driveway
Asked by: farmo440
This is a water-based oil eater and this should remove oil stains great and should not be harmful enough to remove any High Quality floor paint. However, we have never actually tested this product with this application so we would recommend proceeding with caution.

Can I use this on clothes
Asked by: dlea671
The Details section, above, states "Pre-treat grease stains in laundry". And the Dilution Ratios sheet, linked in the product page above, states "As well as in a parts washer, Oil Eater Cleaner/Degreasers can be used ... even as a laundry pre-spotter (Works great to remove a variety of food, body fluids, cosmetic, & medicine stains)." You might want to check the manufacturer's website for more details, but I would think that "clothes" would be included in "laundry".

2 Questions:
- is this product safe to use on Aluminum parts?
- Does this product have a corrosion inhibitor to prevent flash rust on cleaned steel/iron parts?
Asked by: Kess
The previous answer was completely wrong. This cleaner (like most water based alkaline chemicals) is not safe to use on aluminum. Aluminum is a great metal that will oxidize fast to protect itself. Metals like cast iron will “rust” allowing oxidation to penetrate over a longer time. If water is mixed with oil eater, rust will develop on the surface of iron based metals. Cast iron is less susceptible to surface corrosion, while aluminum can be reduced more easily. Oil eater will oxidize aluminum and crystallize Huge precipitates on the surface. Especially for older cast aluminum parts. Polished aluminum is less affected because the pores on the aluminum surface have been closed; therefore the chemical cannot dissolve the aluminum as easily or find a spot to precipitate as easily. The safest cleaners for aluminum are plastic scrapers, soft dremel tips, lint free rags and kerosene.

Asked by: nightoul
This will not damage rubber components because it is a water-based cleaner.
