Product Overview:

Description

Eastwood Black DTM (Direct To Metal) Epoxy Primer 1:1 primes and seals with excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance. The Low VOC Formula is 50 State Compliant.

Our quart bottles of Eastwood Epoxy Primer and Catalyst are for DIYers who want small painting projects to look as good as big ones. This direct-to-metal black epoxy paint can be used as a primer, sealer or both. It’s ideal for chassis and suspension parts, hardware, trunks and other components that typically have a dark topcoat. In addition to bare steel and aluminum, you can also use epoxy primer on body fillers and fiberglass. The catalyst quickens the hardening process by up to 40% — and with an easy 1:1 mix ratio, there’s no guesswork.

Do the Job Right with this 2-component Eastwood primer that has a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. It can be applied using a variety of HVLP paint guns with no induction time needed after mixing. The primer can also be wet-sanded after one day and dry-sanded after 2-3 days, allowing painters to level out imperfections before the finish coat. APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Eastwood Epoxy Primer should be applied in medium wet coats, with a 30-minute flash period between each (at 70 °F). Typically, one to two coats is enough to achieve the desired 1 mil. dry film thickness, though more material may be applied as needed. Additional build requires longer flash periods between coats. Epoxy primer may be topcoated after approximately 30 minutes (wait 45-60 minutes after applying more than two coats), or up to about five days. After five days, primer MUST be scuff sanded prior to topcoat application. May be sanded (wet) the day after application. Wait two to three days before sanding dry.

Questions & Answers

I already sprayed two coats Eastwood Epoxy Primer, but I want to know is it okay to spray a 3rd coat of Eastwood Epoxy Primer, after one week Thanks

Asked by: GNONYX
Yes, but the existing primer down will need to be sanded prior to applying anything further over so that it mechanically bonds.

Hi, Question 1: Can this epoxy primer be sprayed over your self etch primer? 2: Can your single stage urethane be sprayed directly over the epoxy primer? Thanks

Asked by: 54Lp3100
I never use self etch, I use regular Epoxy Primer. If you panels are straight and do not need a Urethane hi-build primer, you can spray directly over the epoxy. Be sure epoxy cures for 3-4 days scuff with scotch guard pad (RED) clean then paint.

Can this be applied over self etching primer?

Asked by: UDTDave
It is no longer recommended to use an etch primer under an epoxy primer. Residual acid from the etch primer can interfere with the proper curing of the epoxy. This may lead to extended dry times, potential blistering, and even adhesion failure.
