MIXING RATIOS
Thoroughly mix three parts single-stage urethane paint with one part 21856ZP Activator - 3:1 mix ratio. No additional reduction is required. Use caution in mixing materials as Eastwood’s single-stage urethane paint may begin to gel after approximately two hours (at 70 °F). A Fish-Eye Eliminator designed for use in urethane products may be added, but only if fisheyes are found to be present. Follow additive manufacturer’s instructions for specific mixing instructions.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Apply single-stage urethane paints in two to three medium wet coats as necessary to achieve sufficient coverage, allowing ten minute flash between coats. Additional coats may be necessary to achieve total coverage for some metallic colors. A final “fog coat” may be applied with metallic colors to help set an even flake pattern and /or adjust flake orientation. A dry film thickness of approximately 2 mil is recommended. Paint should be dust free within 10-15 minutes and tack-free within one hour (at 70 °F). Recoat anytime after the previous coat has flashed, or before 18 hours. After 18 hours, paint should be abraded prior to recoating for proper adhesion purposes.

This urethane paint may be applied as a stand-along single-stage system, or in combination with Eastwood’s High Solids Urethane Clear as a basecoat/clearcoat system. Additionally, Urethane Clear may be integrated into Urethane color. When combining the two systems, be sure to activate each side (the paint and the clear) separately, with their own activators at the correct mix ratios, before blending.

When used as a Single-Stage Urethane Paint, this coating may be wet-sanded and polished for increased depth and gloss like any other urethane topcoat. Care should be taken when lightly cutting metallic colors to prevent disturbing aluminum flake. Please read product label for safety precautions

Candeez Candy Paints

The Candeez can be applied over any of the Eastwood Urethane finishes, but for the most dramatic finishes, apply over Eastwood's Silver-Metallic bases (51549ZP & 51678ZP). To ensure maximum intercoat adhesion use Candeez in conjunction with Eastwood's 2K Urethane Primer, Paints and European Clear Coats. Candeez quarts mix 4:1 and must be activated with 21854Z 4:1 activator.

Painting Specifications:

  • Pot life 2 hours at 70°F
(significantly shorter at higher temperatures and humid conditions)
  • Gun tip size
    • HVLP: 1.2mm - 1.4mm
    • Conventional: 1.4mm - 1.6mm
  • Mix 4:1 by volume
  • Flash dry 15-20 minutes between coats

No reduction is necessary, but reduction with Eastwood's zero VOC reducer 50104ZP may improve leveling and flow. By adjusting the number of coats (normally 3-5) it is possible to achieve different and darker shades. A standard-sized passenger vehicle we suggest four quarts candy plus four half pints activator (that's five quarts sprayable material) and larger vehicles will require more. Candeez may be clear coated after final coat has flashed 15-20 minutes and before 18 hrs have passed. After 18 hrs, abrade with 800 grit to promote adhesion.

Epoxy Primers

Gray Epoxy PrimerBlack Epoxy Primer

MIXING RATIOS

After shaking/stirring primer, thoroughly mix one part 50242ZP (primer, quart) with one part 50243ZP (catalyst, quart), or 50244ZP (primer, gallon) with 502445ZP (catalyst, gallon). No induction time is required with this epoxy system.

OPTION

To reduce film build, 1:1 mixture may be cut by up to 20% with a urethane-grade reducer or other appropriate solvent product. Doing this may also improve the flow and leveling of epoxy primer. Eastwood suggests using a Zero-VOC reducer to avoid potential compliance issues.

Use caution in mixing materials as epoxy primer may begin to gel after approximately 90 minutes (at 70 °F). Mix only enough primer needed for each spraying session.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Eastwood Epoxy Primer should be applied in medium wet coats, with a 30-minute flash period between each (at 70 °F). Typically, one to two coats is enough to achieve the desired 1 mil. dry film thickness, though more material may be applied as needed. Additional build requires longer flash periods between coats.

Epoxy primer may be topcoated after approximately 30 minutes (wait 45-60 minutes after applying more than two coats), or up to about five days. After five days, primer MUST be scuff sanded prior to topcoat application.

May be sanded (wet) the day after application. Wait two to three days before sanding dry. Before using this product please read safety precautions provide on label.

Urethane Clearcoat

Urethane Clear Coat

MIXING RATIOS

Thoroughly mix two parts 50250ZP HS Clear in gallons or 50251ZP HS Clear in quarts, with one part 50252ZP HS Clear Activator. For even better spray-ability, 2:1 mix may be reduced with a urethane-grade reducer or other appropriate solvent product. Doing this will improve the flow and leveling. Eastwood suggests using a Zero-VOC reducer to avoid potential compliance issues.

A Fish-Eye Eliminator designed for use in urethane products may be added if needed. Follow additive manufacturer’s recommendation for specific mixing instructions.

Use caution in mixing materials as HS Clear may begin to gel after approximately two hours (at 70 °F).

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Apply Eastwood HS Clear in two medium wet coats, with a 10-minute flash period between each. Clear should be dry to the touch within 10 minutes, and will be tack-free within three hours (at 70 °F). Do not recoat between one and eight hours after previous coat. Additional coats may be applied after eight, but before 18 hours (at 70 °F) have passed from completion of previous coat.

For increased depth and gloss, well cured clear may be wet sanded and recoated with one to two additional wet coats. Please read product label for safety precautions.

POLISH

Imperfections in the surface may be cut out of Eastwood’s HS Clear with 1500 grit sandpaper after at least eight hours. Follow with 2000 grit sandpaper to remove 1500 grit sand scratches followed by compound and finishing system to restore gloss.
