Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be the most effective rust preventive product yet. Tested against well-known brands, the New Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability. One 15 oz. net wt. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft. Contains no isocyanates. Heat resistant up to 400° F. Made in the USA.
First, remove loose rust, scale, and paint with a wire brush. Also remove any dirt, oil, or grease. The coating is dry to the touch in 20 minutes and thoroughly dries in 3 to 4 hours at 68 degrees. The previous owner of my truck used an older version of the red colored rust encapsulator on the floors some years ago. It held up really well - better than the POR-15 the same owner used on some areas under the bed. So with that in mind, I bought a quart of the black to brush into inaccessible areas of the truck while it's taken apart for paint. I wont know how good it is for a couple of years, I suppose, but it seems to cover well and stick to the rust well. I used phosphoric acid as a prep wash and there do not seem to be any issues with the compatibility.

My painter covered some spots with Glasurit primer with no issues either, although I woud hesitate to use it on any external sheet metal areas that are to be painted later just because you never know how it's going to turn out down the road.

There are probably cheaper or better products out there, but it's such a crowded field that it's easier to just pick one that seems decent and stick with it. Eastwood has been around for a long time and that counts for something - they may be expensive but if something they sell is junk you know they are going to stand behind it if needed.

I'm currently using this on the floor boards of my 77 Corvette and it could not go on any easier right out of the spray can! It works great on parts too, I have used it on my parking brake mechanism and not only does it look great but it doesn’t gum up the works or flake off when used. A little price break would be nice though. I love using Eastwood products for the high quality but it’s enough to drive you broke.

The quart size version in the black color is much, thinner than was the red oxide, which apparently is no longer available. Whether it will work as well, only time will tell, but now I have my doubts. Is this a reduction in quality?

I've been using this product since the 1980s, when it was called Corroless, and it's fantastic at stopping rust. I just wish that there was an option in the quart size for red oxide, which apparently has been discontinued. I started a project with a quart in red oxide, but now that I need to re-order the only option is black. Bummer.

Bought the encapsulator only because I was ordering other stuff and thought I'd give it a try. It doesn't flow out or look anywhere near as nice as the KBS Rustseal I've been using now for years and the encapsulator smells terrible! I gave it a try.
