Description
ATK HP74 Chevy 350 Vortec Engine, or Stage 1 Engine, is designed for those that may have their own component parts already and who also are interested in completing out the build themselves. A GM base engine typically consists of the following: Short Block, Camshaft, Timing set, Cylinder heads, Valve covers, Timing cover, oil pan, oil pump & pick up tube.

This engine is an upgrade for 1996-2000 Chevy trucks or SUVs the ECM must be tuned and headers are need to get the full potential out of this engine. We test this engine with an aftermarket EFI system on an engine dyno, power ratings may vary. Your engine may not necessarily come with all components listed, but they are listed as our recommendations of parts to run for optimal performance.

I have read that pcm tuning is required. I plan to have the pcm tuned but will it run reasonable on stock tune? I understand hp will be lower. I currently am using 2000 scpi with upgraded injector, 1 3/4short headers 2.5 y pipe 3" exhaust

I have a 1980 Chevy K20 pick up truck. Will this engine work with a 4 barrel carburetor? Thanks.
Yes it will, but please be aware that this engine does not have provisions for a mechanical fuel pump though and it has vortec heads so it will not work an older intake manifold. #31963 is another great option:https://www.eastwood.com/atk-hp291p-chevy-350-base-engine-325hp.html

I have a 98 chevy k2500 and am looking at getting this engine, do you dyno this engine and could i get aluminum vortec heads such as the edelbrock or would it be a waist of money
ATK does dyno test this engine before shipment. ATKHP89 would be an excellent option if you are looking for aluminum heads.

Do you have any suggestions about what to get to tune the ecm or to send it to you do it?
Unfortunately we do not have any suggestions on ECM tuning and do not offer it at this time.

I HAVE A 1997CK1500WITCH ENGINES CAN I USE TO REPLACE IT WITH WHERE EVERY THING WILL WORK
This engine will be a direct swap, but you MUST have your ECM tuned for the upgraded camshaft.

I thought vortex heads had the triple hump marks on the end I don’t see them.
ATK uses an aftermarket Dart Cast Iron Vortec head. It’s a much stronger, better flowing, American made head.

Will any tuning be needed to the ECM in a 98 Chevy Silverado or is this a drop in, hook up, and go?
Yes, the ECM must be tuned for the upgraded camshaft via lap top computer.
