Questions & Answers

Can these flakes be used with resin? I want to use them on a tabletop made of wood that I’m resin coating. If they will work, should I mix them with the first layer of resin or sprinkle them on top of the first layer?

Asked by: John
I would say to mix it in the first coat assuming you are using clear epoxy on the wood. The issue that can arise when sprinkling flakes on top of a coat of epoxy is that the ones that land at angles stick up potentially more than your top coat will cover smoothly.

These flakes are intended for use in liquid paints and will not hold up to curing of powders.

Which size of your flakes can be used without having to come back and wetsand and buff afterwards?

Asked by: Aaron82901
To get a smooth and flat surface, I am going to say you will need to sand and reclear with any of our flakes. I recently paint a fiberglass dune buggy using our gold flakes and that was 2 coats of flake, followed by 3 coats of clear. Once dry, I sanded it flat with 600 grit and applied 3 more coats of clear.

The size of the flakes is listed as.008 inches. However....in your Carbon Metallic Paint....the flakes list as 50-65 Microns. So what are the Micron size of this holographic metal flake? Thanks.

Asked by: Victor
This flake and the flake in our Carbon metallic paint are not relevant. This flake listing is a completely separate entity and not the same exact flake as used in the paint color in reference.

can you mix pearls and flakes together and what will the effect be.if your painting a base coat like a metallic blue can you add pearl to that and spray flakes in the intercoat and top with clear?

Asked by: buf4rd22
You can certainly mix pearls and flakes into a clear and apply it.. Unfortunately there is not way to describe to you what the effect will be- that question is to open ended and too many variables play in to give a response. Just be sure to apply a few coats of straight clear over the top of your pearls and flakes for UV stability and textural purposes when cutting and buffing.

Can the holographic flakes be used with a single stage?

Asked by: TomF
flakes can be applied into a single stage paint, keep in mind if you sand the paint it will sand directly into the flakes.
