Customer Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps the look I’ve bought this item twice now. 14 cans in all. Love how it keeps the patina just how it should be. The satin look is great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems like it does a good job. Never bought any preserver before, but item seems to do a good job. Just put it on the other day, had a couple rainy days, didn't wash off, still beads, hope it lasts because I will need more for other vehicles. Little pricey, but if it lasts for the time they say it will , should be worth the money. Would recommend the product as of right now, but time will tell.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked ok for a year I used it on a tailgate bench I made. It sat outside for a year in the mid-atlantic area. At the end of the year there was no more rust than before, but the paint had become cloudy/faded looking. I first washed it with simple green and a magic eraser, and it didn't look much different, so it wasn't just dirt. I rubbed it with lacquer thinner (as I had done before applying the patina preserver originally) and it brought the color back. I'm assuming that all the preserver had worn off, as it's only supposed to last a year. I'm thinking of using satin clear coat instead for longer lasting results and to save money.

Why are you unable to ship the Patina Preserver into California?

Asked by: Winesmith
The VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds) are too high for the state of California. Same reason we are unable to ship our Pre-Painting Prep item# 10041Z. We have a Low-VOC Pre-Painting Pre item# 11949Z as an alternative. Unfortunately, we do have an alternative for the Patina Preserver at this time.

Do you have to cover the entire car or can you just hit the rust spots to get an even look

Asked by: Jimmie J Fudrucker
You can apply it to anywhere that you want to seal up but it may have a slightly different sheen than the areas without.

will you be able to paint your car, at a later date after using patina preserver. How do you remove it, prior to painting?

Asked by: Tanner
This is a wax/ oil based substance which self heals if scratched. Since this never cures you can not apply anything on top of this. You need to fully strip this product off before applying anything else. Our Chassis Kleen: https://www.eastwood.com/ew-chassis-kleen-18-oz-aerosol.html. Then wipe down the surface with Acetone and you should be good to go.

After assembling my chassis, would this be my best option to preserve the new metal hardware and keep it from corroding or rusting over the year or so while I finish restoring the car?

Asked by: Stingnutd
This is a wax/ oil based substance that self heals if scratched. You would use this form the application in reference but it would need to be reapplied every so often.

I am looking for something that will stop a progression of paint loss... primer underneath is starting to show...can I spray this on the primer where paint has already flaked off, and would it seal the primer?  Thanks for your help!

Asked by: afibjan
This is a parrafin wax based substance that will spray dry. It can certainly be used on the existing finish to preserve what is there. It will need to be re applied every so often though.

Making a tailgate bench for outside. Read another review where color faded over time. Can I use this to seal in the patina and then top coat with one of your 2k spray can clears for a more durable longer lasting finish for outdoors?

Asked by: John P
The Patina preserver would need to be re applied periodically. It would not be recommended to apply a 2K clear over top of this coating for compatibility reasons.
