POR-15® Black Rust Prevention Paint

Restore rusted and corroded metal by coating it with this legendary paint-over-rust solution. POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating is a high-performance coating formulated to apply directly on rusted or seasoned metal surfaces. Using it will stop rust permanently even on decades-old cars and trucks. Rated 5 out of 5 by Ian1 from Tough finish, somewhat challenging to apply Seems significantly more effective than spray-on rust encapsulator products. Finish has the look, feel, and seeming durability of a powder-coat finish. Prep is important: if applied over loose rust, then the toughness of the finish is undermined by the ease of chipping the loose rust off. If you brush and/or sand the rust down so that it is surface rust only, then this product bonds like bonkers. It also bonds to whatever else it touches, including skin, fingernails, clothing, driveway pavement, and the lid of the can itself. If you plan to use this across multiple projects, be aware that the product that collects in the lip of the can will bond the lid closed and you'll have to damage the lid to get it open next time. You only get a few cracks at one can before you've got a product that can't be resealed. I used a microfiber-covered sponge for application, which worked well. You can use a paintbrush or sponge brush. You should assume that your application tool will be ruined after application. The finish looks good and seems significantly more durable than competing products.

Can you use a stage 1 or stage 2 paint over the por15? If yes, would you have to primer it first?

It can be done- but as with anything you should test a small area first. A primer would not necessarily be needed as the POR15 would act as your primer in that scenario.

Can you spray por-15 with what gun? Do you thin with water or thinner? Any instruction how to spray?

This does not need to be reduced to spray. It can be sprayed directly through an HVLP paint gun with a 1.4mm-1.6mm nozzle set.
