Stop rust in its tracks! Rust Encapsulator is the easiest way to stop and prevent rust and corrosion from spreading.
Superior durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
UV Resistance - a topcoat is not needed
Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
Requires minimal prep and cures fast
Available in convenient spray aerosol or brush on quart and gallon sizes
Heat resistant to 400F
2%-10% Gloss Level
Simply wire brush any loose rust, wipe with PRE painting prep to clean the surface and apply. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in UV resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability.
Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be one of the most effective rust-preventive products yet. Rust Encapsulator is a great primer for floor pans and other underbody parts. It fills tiny pin-holes and surface irregularities, and is compatible with lacquer, enamel and urethane topcoats (including Eastwood Chassis Black). For the absolute ultimate rust remedy, first brush or spray-on Eastwood Rust Converter, then prime with Rust Encapsulator. One 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft., and contains no isocyanates. One Gallon covers about 160 Sq Ft. Heat-resistant up to 400°F. Made in the USA.
Work in a well-ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator is recommended. Shake aerosol vigorously for 2 minutes before spraying.
Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Wipe down with Pre Painting Prep (10041Z). Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" above surface as you spray. A single coat dries to the touch in 20 minutes, and is thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68°F. For greater durability, a second coat can be applied 1 hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after the last coat before applying topcoat. Use over or under body fillers.
The Rust Encapsulator Quarts and Gallons can be sprayed right out of the can with a conventional HVLP spray gun with a 1.3 - 1.4 tip.

Rust Encapsulater Plus Pretty ImpressiveI used this product (Rust Encapsulater Plus) on the transmission and engine well portion of the frame on my 1966 C10. Grinder wire brushed and cleaned before painting. Can't comment on longevity but paint seems to adhere well, also aesthetically exceptional, i.e. I brushed it on but no brush marks after drying. Used in 65 degree weather, 60% humidity.

Safer than its successorsDoes not contain isocyanates like the Rust Encapsulator Plus and Platinum, and to me as a hobbyist that's far more important than the number of hours of corrosion protection it provides. The Plus made me very sick for several days after using it with a fresh OV respirator. I would choose this over the Plus or Platinum regardless of cost unless I had a supplied air system and was working on an "heirloom quality" vehicle.

Excellent primer for cast iron radiatorsEastwood rust encapsulator was the perfect product to prime my old cast iron radiators for a single stage urethane.
The epoxy base gives it excellent adherence.
The product goes on glossy but will dry to a very durable matte black finish.
The product is holding up perfectly after a year of 200 degree temperatures. I don’t anticipate ever having to repaint these
I used an Eastwood Concours LT100 HVLP Paint Gun to apply all products.

Great on frames.I used this product on a frame off restoration of my Jeep. Over 50k miles later all my black paint looks great. I now use it as a primer for all my antique projects. Currently doing a 1952 Ferguson TO 30.
Pressure washing is an acceptable start with a couple notes. Be sure the area dries well from washing. The key to Encapsulator is making sure there is nothing loose left. No loose rust or metal that should be wire brushed or wheeled away. Then a wipe down with a good PRE cleaner before applying.

Next to the rusted area is plastic (and rubberized coating). Can I paint over it other materials for uniformity sakes?
Asked by: Liis
Eastwood Black Rust Encapsulator is designed specifically for use on metal surfaces—particularly rusty or bare metal—and is not formulated to bond properly to plastic or rubberized coatings.

Will body filler stick to rust encapsulator paint?
Asked by: Papa f250
Yes, body filler can stick to Eastwood Black Rust Encapsulator, but only if applied correctly — and it's not always the ideal base. Here's what you need to know: Rust Encapsulator is not designed as a bodywork foundation. It's meant to seal rust, not to act as a high-adhesion primer like epoxy. Body filler adheres better to bare metal or epoxy primer than it does to encapsulator products.

Can this be used on new angle iron (hot roll mill scale) without any additional prep such as wire wheel?
Asked by: Outdoor Kayak Rack
No, you shouldn’t apply Rust Encapsulator directly over hot-rolled mill scale without prep — wire-wheeling or mechanical abrasion is strongly recommended to ensure adhesion and longevity.

Shelf life after opened
Asked by: Exrebel
Once opened and exposed to atmospheric moisture, the product will begin to cure and solidify. Resealing tightly or transferring to a new sealed container can prolong usability, but typically only for a few months.

Can this be applied to wood? Would it work on the bottom side of a wood panel truck bed?
Asked by: Lmims
That would be a trial. It's not recommended for wood, as it's designed for surfaces that are free of grease, oil, and loose rust. Rust encapsulators are most effective when used on rusted metal surfaces, like cast iron and bare steel.
