FAQs

Will the scroll compressor need to be hardwired or will it have a plug?
The scroll compressor will come with a 10 ga cord that will not have a plug end. This will give you the option to hardwire or install an appropriate plug of your choice.

Will a 20 amp breaker be sufficient for power usage?
Refer to the Compressor nameplate for voltage and amperage requirements. All wiring must be done by a licensed electrician, in accordance with National Electric Code and state and local requirements. For best performance, the Compressor must be installed on a dedicated circuit, with a circuit breaker or fuse for protection. Each time the Compressor motor starts, it will momentarily draw several times its full load amperage. It is important to consider this start-up surge when specifying circuit breakers or fuses. If fuses are used, time-delay type must be installed.

How Much does it cost to ship the Scroll Compressor?
Shipping for a Scroll Compressor is by truck freight and is calculated after it is added to the shopping cart. In store pick up will also be available at our retail locations.

Does the Scroll Compressor still need an air Filter/Drier?
Just like a piston compressor the scroll compressor compresses air which causes the air temperature to rise and moisture to condense Therefore the same Filtration and moisture separation will be needed to ensure clean dry air.

What are the maintenance requirements?
After the first year we specify an oil change and every three years we specify an oil and filter change. There is an air filter, an oil filter and a moisture separator/filter that would be changed at that time.

Where is this Compressor Made?
The air compressor is made in China to Eastwood's specifications. We do all validation and testing of products here in the USA to ensure that they meet our exacting standards.

How does a scroll compressor work?
A scroll compressor uses two interleaving scrolls to pump, compress or pressurize fluids, including liquids and gases. One of the scrolls is typically fixed, while the other scroll orbits without rotating, which results in trapping, pumping or compressing pockets of fluid between the scrolls.

Another method for producing the compression motion is co-rotating the scrolls at the same time, but with offset centers of rotation. The relative motion is the same as if one were orbiting around the other.

How do you quiet an air compressor?

The easiest solution to quieting an air compressor is to buy a new ultra-quiet model. If you are looking for a way to quiet your existing air compressor, there are some tips that you can follow.

You can install an intake silencer, which will help to dampen the sound produced by the incoming air rushing through the filter of your air compressor. Another tip is to install anti-vibration pads under your stationary air compressor. You can also build your own soundproof box to house your air compressor.

If those methods don't work, it is recommended to move your air compressor as far away from you as possible or wear hearing protection when near your air compressor.

Is a scroll or a rotary compressor better?

In general, rotary air compressors have more power and can cool more air than a scroll air compressor. Rotary compressors are usually a better option in larger central air conditioning systems, but the power could be wasted if used in a smaller central unit or a window air conditioner.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must have Super quiet. Best compressor I've ever had. Great for my home shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great airflow As of now, it works wonderfully it’s quiet produces a lot of air

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I have owned mine for just under a year now. Not a heavy user. I love it! If I had to buy another compressor, I would by same thing again. No issues with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and fast! The compressor is super quiet, and fast recovery. I bought it for my blast cabinet. The compressor kicks on at 110 psi, then climbs to 120 psi and holds when the cabinet is in use, which gives me unlimited air, no more waiting for a loud noisy compressor to catch up. It’s not a two stage 80 gal. But it is as close as it gets and it is a lot more quiet than a two stage compressor! I like the fact than when it reaches pressure, it will relieve the head pressure to make a low amperage draw at start up. Might require a little more maintenance, but it probably the maintenance I should do to the bigger compressors. And for the third time…it’s quiet and fast!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great compressor First I have to mention how well the unit was package. Basically it was inside of a cushioned wood box secured to a pallet. I haven’t even used it a month yet however I will say quiet running is an understatement. I have never heard a quieter compressor. Has so far ran every air tool that I had attached to it with no problem, DA, air grinder and HVLP paint gun. The size is very compact, for the output this unit has.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I am in awe of how quiet this thing is... Time will tell on longevity, but so far, it was ready to run right out of the box, just had to wire up my NEMA receptacle to the included pigtail(nice bonus btw, did not even have to provide any wire) The sound (or lack thereof) is other wordly. After decades of having my sanity and hearing ruined from piston compressors, this thing is a god send. It literally sounds like a dishwasher. You can have a phone conversation standing right next to it. And so far, it's kept up with everything I could throw at it, DA'ed a whole car, never slowed down. Primed that whole car, never dropped pressure. I had my doubts, but I'm a believer.

Questions & Answers

Oil filter - to remove is it clockwise or counter clockwise

Asked by: Dale1961
Thanks for your question. Both the oil filter (black) and moisture filter (white) are removed in a counterclockwise direction. You may need to use an oil filter wrench for best results.

What is the difference between the "Previous Generation" and the Current version?

Asked by: JoeC
The automatic oil drain. Not a tank drain but a drain to keep moisture out of the lubricating oil. Helpful on units that see light occasional use and aren't in temperature controlled environments.

Can I put a 80 gallon auxiliary tank on this unit?

Asked by: James
Thank you for your question: Yes you can! Eastwood Elite 80 Gallon Auxiliary Air Compressor Tank is compatible as well as other auxiliary tanks. It will need to be plumbed properly as I am sure you are already aware. Make sure you are running a high quality filter dryer on the system and do not forget to drain the tanks of any moisture daily, if possible.

I have a 50amp breaker with NEMA 6-50R for My Mig 180 that I currently use. Is the plug outlet the same? Can I just unplug the welder and plug in this compressor?

Asked by: TomV119
You would be able to run the compressor, however although the compressor doesn't list the NEMA configuration for the compressor it is probably a 20 or 30 amp / 240 volt which would be different then what your welder uses. So you would have to change the plug on the compressor, or add an additional j box and run a set of wires from the 50 amp over to new box and use a 30 amp or whatever compressor requires, Just wont be able to run them simultaneously

Can 30/60 compressor paint a car or truck with a hvlp gun at one with no breaks in between

Asked by: Lowboy80
As long as the paint gun uses less that 12.7 cfm, The Eastwood Elite QST 30/60 Scroll Air Compressor with Quiet Technology has a 1750 RPM industrial grade scroll pump produces 12.7 cfm and will be able to handle most air tools and paint guns.

What is the operating temperature of the oil to reduce the water build up in the oil tank ?

Asked by: Midwester1
There is no specific oil temp to reduce the moisture internally. Moisture and small amount of oil are to be expected in the air tank - this is not an oil-less air compressor. There may also be moisture accumulation in the oil tank. We recommend draining this on a daily to weekly basis based off usage. Please see out technical service bulletin: https://www.eastwood.com/30-60-scroll-compressor-service-bulletin-1 It really depends on your use case and environmental conditions. We have some updated general guidance in the instruction manual (https://www.eastwood.com/images/library/63600Q_QST_3060_Scroll_Compressor_INSTRUCTIONS.pdf), but the general theme is in more humid environments (eg. summer time in the south) where you're using the unit intermittently several time a week it is a good idea to quick drain it before you switch it on every day. It takes less than thirty seconds to flip the valve, watch the flow, and close it. Weekly at a minimum. If you use the unit hard enough that the oil boils off the moisture that's great and you might not need to drain it very often. In northern winters (like right now here in PA) you may also not need to drain it often just because the humidity in the air is so low. If you have further questions or feel that your compressor is malfunctioning, please reach out to our Project Advisor Team at 800-343-9353, press 1.
