Questions & Answers

There’s no specific details on these flakes, and the name can be misleading.  Are these flakes solid black in color?  Do they sparkle / shimmer in the sunlight, or are they completely dull & flat?

Asked by: MMAMack
The Molten Rubber Super Flakes(15394) are an .004 inch size flake that can be sprayed with a 1.3mm or larger spray gun tip. These flakes are solid black and do sparkle/shimmer in the sun light.

Let me rephrase. When I ask how "bold" these flakes are, if these are .004" flakes, how much larger are the flakes in Metal Flake fine flake? How large are the particles in a standard metallic paint? On a coarse to fine scale, where does this fall?

Asked by: rick
The Metal Flake scale runs on average from .002" to .025" flake. This places your choice, the Eastwood Super Flake (15394) .004" size flake in the Micro fine category and can be sprayed with a 1.2 to 1.3 tip size. Metal Flake fine would be .008" size and should be sprayed with a 1.5 tip size. Standard Flake .015" size is the industry standard for metal flake used by most manufactures and must be sprayed with a 1.8 size tip.

If added to the single stage black. Will it shimmer the same as when it is added to the clear coat.

Asked by: Steve
This will not suspend as much as being added to a clear coat but will still give you a shimmer when added to single stage.

Just how "bold" is this product? I want to repaint my medium gray Jaguar and the OEM color is a very subdued, if not boring, metallic. I want to wake up the color but I don't want overkill, I don't want it looking like a metal flake dune buggy.

Asked by: rick
How "bold" this product is depends on how much you put in the clear and how many coats of clear you apply. With a custom effect we cannot say how much or how little it will effect the paint as that is entirely up to the painter.

How much of this is typically needed for one car?  Or more specifically, how much of one car will one 50g bottle cover?

Asked by: Rman234
"Recommended add, 50 grams per gallon."

Will this shimmer if sprayed with a black paint or should I use a silver flake?

Asked by: Jeff76
It will add a sparkle to black if it's used as a mid-coat (sprayed on top of black). Using a silver flake will be very bright, and will make the final color appear much brighter overall.

Are the flakes added to the clearcoat? And does this become rubberized like a bedliner?

Asked by: 1man
The flakes are added to the clear. And no this is NOT a bedliner nor does it have the durability of a bedliner.
