Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy application. Looks great. Lasting so far. Working on 2 projects right now. One truck has the bed off and is sitting outside. Did a rough scuff on an exposed portion of the frame and applied 2 coats of the Rust Encapsulator. A month later it still looks great and is holding up well. The other truck, which is garaged and whole, looks great and is holding up a couple months later. Really need at least two coats to get it looking good (see photo).

I have a 2010 Ford Escape and I noticed some mild rust all the way along the edges of the frame underneath. I want to stop it before it gets worse. It only about an inch of rust on both sides. How do you suggest going about this? Using Rust Encapsulator?

Asked by: Kyle
Rust Encapsulator would be a great product to use. Just make sure that you use a wax and grease remover like our Pre Item #10041Z, before applying the Rust Encapsulator.

I have a 2016 Chev. 2500 and I live in the Northeast. The frame is just starting to develop a small amount of rust. I would like to stop it before it gets any worse. Would rust encapsulator be the best product?

Asked by: Steve
Yes the Encapsulator would be the best temporary solution to this issue. Take a wire brush to knock off what you can that's lose or scaling. Scuff up the existing finish with 400 grit paper and clean with PRE or Acetone. Then apply the Encpasulator. This will suffocate whatever it comes in contact with and stop it from spreading.

The rust encapsulator does not come with an extension tube nor a 360-degree tube, however, we sell a product called internal frame coating which does.

I have a truck w/a lot of heavy surface rust. What is a long term/cost effective protection for bottom of cab, inner fenders, underneath the dashboard, etc. Is it better to use rust converter then epoxy primer, or just encapsulator?

Asked by: Rabidfarmhand
Our Rust Converter should only be used where very heavy scaly rust is present. Then after that is applied you can go over the area with our Rust Encapsulator. The Rust Encapsulator can be applied over any rusty area that has been wiped down with a wax and grease remover, or Acetone. Epoxy Primer should never be applied over a untreated rusty area. You can apply Epoxy primer over the Rust Encapsulator.

sandblasted the frame,i want to put this rust encapsulator direct to clean metal, then top coat with the extreme chassis black, after i spray the encapsulator, how long do i have to wait till i spray the chassis black? do i need to scuff the encapsulator?

Asked by: standardbyke
The encapsulator can be topcoated after about 6 hours, if you go past the 24 hour window it must be scuffed before topcoating.

What is the recommended method of cleaning brushes that were used with this product? My brushes are soaking in acetone, but it does seem very hard to remove from the brushes. Thank you!

Asked by: Mike
Acetone or Lacquer thinner would be the ideal solvents for cleaning brushes off after use of this coating.

Rust Encapsulator for Auto Repair

Stop rust in its tracks! Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is ideal for parts on project cars that have started to rust, but would be very difficult to replace or fabricate. Simply spray it onto springs, frames, panels and other parts. On properly prepared surfaces that are free of oil and grease, this product seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading. But it performs even better than our original formula. In fact, our black Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance! It will also prevent new rust from forming so your parts will remain strong.

Stronger Than Ever

If you thought it was good before, wait until you try the newest version of our great anti-rust spray. We fortify our over-rust aerosol with an epoxy that helps it stick to the metal and also helps topcoat paints adhere to the encapsulator. Or you can leave it as is for a cool OEM-black look on your suspension or chassis. The latest formulation is strongly heat-resistant to handle the high operating temperatures of a vehicle and will cure quickly so you can resume your project work.

Outperforms the Competition

When tested against well-known brands, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in resisting sunlight, preventing rust creep and promoting overall durability. And by using a spray can, you can get to the nooks and crannies that are prone to rusting yet are hard to completely cover with a brush or paint gun. Buy it together with our 1-quart cans of heavy-duty anti-rust and you'll have a full solution to stop rust from eating away at your ride. Eastwood's 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee means you can shop with confidence every time you visit.

  • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
  • 15 oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.

About Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Black Aerosol 15 ounce

Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be the most effective protection from rust yet. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability. One 15 oz. net wt. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft. Contains no isocyanates. Heat resistant up to 400' F. Made in the USA.

One 15 ounce net wt. aerosol, enough to cover up to 10 square feet.

Heavy-duty Anti Rust Qt. (16017 Z P) is actually superior for applying into blind areas such as box sections where little or no surface prep can be done.

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Work in a well ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator like our Professional Respirator (34029) is recommended when applying this coating. Shake vigorously for 2 mins before spraying !!

Made in the USA.

Wire Brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint. Remove dust, grease, oil deposits. Shake can for at least 2 mins after mixing ball starts to rattle. Feather surrounding paint with 220 grit sandpaper. Apply Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" from surface. Single coats dry to the touch in 20 minutes and are thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degrees F. For greater durability a second coat can be applied one hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after last coat before applying top coat. See can label for more details.

Accessories & Consumables

In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections. Buy 3 or more quart cans and save!
