Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy application. Looks great. Lasting so far. Working on 2 projects right now. One truck has the bed off and is sitting outside. Did a rough scuff on an exposed portion of the frame and applied 2 coats of the Rust Encapsulator. A month later it still looks great and is holding up well. The other truck, which is garaged and whole, looks great and is holding up a couple months later. Really need at least two coats to get it looking good (see photo).

Can I use this product on bare slightlly rusted metal, and after it cure uses body filler epoxy primer and paint as normal? will the rust come back?

Asked by: Mahmoud
Yes this can be sued for the scenario in reference. Both body fillers and Epoxy primer can be applied over top of this product. It will suffocate any rust it comes in contact with and stop it from spreading any further.

After welding and grinding, will applying this product on the weld help with any missing pin holes?

Asked by: Mahmoud
Using an Epoxy primer for this application would be a much better option.

I have an engine compartment that was epoxy primed about 15 years ago. Now there are some rust spots showing through the primer, do I need to strip the whole engine compartment down to bare metal or can I scuff the primer and apply the rust encapsulator?

Asked by: bs23
We would recommend that in the ares of rust, that you remove the primer back far enough to be able to see clean, non rusted metal. To be safe there should be a 1" space of clean metal. That way the Rust treatment will be able to touch the rust. Remember that the Rust encapsulator needs to come in direct contact with the rust in order for it to work.

Does anything have to be done to the rust encapsulator before applying a second coat?

Asked by: JWH181
Just follow the re coat window times, and if you exceed that time frame, simply scuff up the area to be re coated and apply the second coat.

Should I use the rust encapsulated Eastwood product on my hood that was brought down to bare metal and let it dry before using your 2k epoxy primer, and then moving forward start using your body filler?

Asked by: JasonG
Rust Encapsulator Is to be applied directly over rusty or bare metal. If you already have the epoxy primer on the hood, then do not use the rust encapsulator. You can, however apply the body filler directly over the epoxy primer as long as you have the primer scuffed up where the body filler will go.

Rust Encapsulator for Auto Repair

Stop rust in its tracks! Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is ideal for parts on project cars that have started to rust, but would be very difficult to replace or fabricate. Simply spray it onto springs, frames, panels and other parts. On properly prepared surfaces that are free of oil and grease, this product seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading. But it performs even better than our original formula. In fact, our black Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance! It will also prevent new rust from forming so your parts will remain strong.

Stronger Than Ever

If you thought it was good before, wait until you try the newest version of our great anti-rust spray. We fortify our over-rust aerosol with an epoxy that helps it stick to the metal and also helps topcoat paints adhere to the encapsulator. Or you can leave it as is for a cool OEM-black look on your suspension or chassis. The latest formulation is strongly heat-resistant to handle the high operating temperatures of a vehicle and will cure quickly so you can resume your project work.

Outperforms the Competition

When tested against well-known brands, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in resisting sunlight, preventing rust creep and promoting overall durability. And by using a spray can, you can get to the nooks and crannies that are prone to rusting yet are hard to completely cover with a brush or paint gun. Buy it together with our 1-quart cans of heavy-duty anti-rust and you'll have a full solution to stop rust from eating away at your ride. Eastwood's 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee means you can shop with confidence every time you visit.

Features:

  • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California

FAQ's

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.
