Product Overview:

Description

Eastwood Paint Over Rust Encapsulator

Stop rust in its tracks with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Black. This paint-over-rust formula is the easiest way to stop rust and corrosion from forming and prevent existing rust from spreading. It seals metal parts and penetrates beneath the surface to encase rust while leaving behind a paintable surface. Rust Encapsulator can be used as a primer for a variety of topcoats, or left as-is if you prefer a low-gloss finish. The black color is ideal for chassis and undercarriage rust prevention. With heat resistance up to 400 degrees, you can even apply it to the engine bay.

Using this automotive rust preventer is easy. Simply use a wire brush to remove loose rust, wipe with PRE Painting Prep to clean the surface and apply in brush or spray-on form. Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in UV resistance, rust creep prevention and overall durability. Many other colors are available to help you Do the Job Right.

Rust Encapsulator Features:

  • SUPERIOR corrosion resistance to "hardware store rust paints" for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
  • 15 oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.
  • UV resistance — a topcoat is not needed
  • Requires minimal prep and cures fast
  • Available in convenient spray aerosol or brush on quart and gallon sizes
  • Heat resistant to 400 degrees Fahrenheit
  • 2-10% gloss level
  • As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab.

Rust Encapsulator When You Need to Paint Over Rust

Iron oxide is no match for our original Eastwood Rust Encapsulator® in a flat black finish. This aerosol paint-over-rust solution quickly stops surface rust before it can compromise the part’s structural integrity. Rust Encapsulator penetrates deep into the metal to prevent existing rust from spreading or future rust from forming. It’s also heat-resistant up to 400 degrees, which means it can be safely used in the engine bay or near the brakes. The convenient spray can application is easy for DIYers with fast curing times.. We fortify our over-rust aerosol with an epoxy that helps it stick to the metal and also helps topcoat paints adhere to the encapsulator. Or you can leave it as is for a cool OEM-black look on your suspension or chassis.

Outperforms the Competition

Our revolutionary automotive rust prevention aerosol outperforms anything you might find at a hardware store or local parts dealer. One 15-ounce can will cover roughly 10 square feet, which is adequate for suspension work and other small projects. Apply this matte black rust-stopping paint directly onto surface rust — it’s epoxy-fortified to resist corrosion and UV rays, meaning you can leave it as a topcoat or paint over it like a primer. Eastwood rust preventing spray paints are proudly made in the USA with a one-year warranty.

When tested against well-known brands, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in resisting sunlight, preventing rust creep and promoting overall durability. And by using a spray can, you can get to the nooks and crannies that are prone to rusting yet are hard to completely cover with a brush or paint gun. Eastwood's 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee means you can shop with confidence every time you visit

FAQs

Q: Can Rust Encapsulator be applied with the Undercoating System?

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds and through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rust Encapsulator covered well Did some rear frame protection on a 96 GMC Z-71 with brush on Rust Encapsulator as well as the aerosol ... bed removed. Both covered very well. Just follow Eastwoods directions on applying as well as initial metal prep for lasting results.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A high quality product Another good quality product. However I finished sandblasting some fenders and needed more to finish the job. Unfortunately it has been on backorder for two months and I will probably have to re-blast the fenders. This is not the first time that "my time" was put on hold due to inadequate inventory. It seems to me that there needs to be a greater effort concerning merchandising and inventory control. I have encountered this situation more than once.

Questions & Answers

Is it necessary to remove brakelines and wire harnesses when using rust encapsulator

Asked by: Will G
It will not damage either, but it can be challenging to remove from surfaces. So if you don't want paint to drip or overspray on to those I would make sure everything is fully masked that you don't want painted.

I've used brush on POR 15 with amazing results over rust. Is this similar to POR-15 only in aerosol form? I am basically looking for POR-15 in a spray can - something I can spray over rust and it won't come through.

Can I use raptor liner over top of the eastwood rust encapsulator? Or will there be a problem with it adhering to it?

Asked by: Ethan10
Unfortunately, we can not guarantee compatibility between our products and other brands. This is an Epoxy fortified lacquer based coating. We would have to advise you to test a small area first or on scrap metal before applying liberally over everything.

Can this be sprayed over galvanized boat trailer?

Asked by: Erik1973
Yes, you can use Rust Encapsulator on any metal surface with light rust on it. Although our products are NOT tested for marine applications.

Do I need to paint over the encapsulater?

Asked by: Jolo
Technically, this is UV stable and can stand alone. However, if being applied to a high traffic area like the frame- we do recommend top coating it further for added durability. Our Chassis Black paints work very well over this.

Could it be used as a primer for a small set of rims?

Asked by: Harry165
i wouldnt use the encapsulator as a primer for wheels, because you could get a undisirable finish texture. i would sand or blast the wheels clean first, then prime the wheels after they have dried use a high build primer surfacer to get the surface nice and smooth , wet sand to a nice smooth surface . then onto color of your choice.

can i spot treat rusty areas with the Eastwood rust encapsulator black aerosol then prime the spots and bare metal with eastwood extreme chassis black primer then topcoat with extreme chassis black paint

Asked by: 49ford
Yes, you can proceed with this sequence without issues. Or you can apply the Encapsulator over everything and it will act as your primer.
