Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy application. Looks great. Lasting so far. Working on 2 projects right now. One truck has the bed off and is sitting outside. Did a rough scuff on an exposed portion of the frame and applied 2 coats of the Rust Encapsulator. A month later it still looks great and is holding up well. The other truck, which is garaged and whole, looks great and is holding up a couple months later. Really need at least two coats to get it looking good (see photo).

can you weld thru this product after metal has been coated? or should you remove the coating at the spot that needs to be welded?

Asked by: Billy
Rust Encapsulator is not meant to be a weld thru product. We would recommend our weld thru primer.

Can Rust Encapsulator be used over areas that have Internal Frame Coating on them, areas where the two meet? I have areas that are semi-accessible and would like to spray RE on top of the Internal Frame Coating where possible.

Asked by: Robert
Yes, the two products are compatible and should not negatively react. If the Internal Frame coating is fully cured- you would want to scuff this up first to ensure a mechanical bond between the two products.

Can an oil based enamel paint be used as a top coat over Rust Encapsulator?

Asked by: Keith
We do not test with oil-based paints and can't guarantee compatibility with the product.

Going to slow the inevitable death of my 13 GMC- after getting as much rust knocked off of the frame as possible, would it be better to use the rust converter, or the encapsulator?

Asked by: ZiRT
Converter can not come in contact with any existing finish and should only be applied to pretty moderate to severe rust- it would also need to then be top coated further. I would probably go with the Encapsulator for your specific scenario.

Hello, I recently purchased a new 2019 Toyota Tacoma. I was to undercoat it before winter, and I do not want to use the rubberized undercoats. Can I just spray this over the factory paint on the under carrage or do I have to sand or degrease?

Asked by: Andrew
We recommend scuffing and degreasing the surface before applying the encapsulator.

My floor pan has areas of surface rust, bare metal (new patches), and original paint coating. Will this product adhere to coated surfaces or does the floor pan need striped to bare metal everywhere?

Asked by: Papa Roscoe
Yes, this product will adhere over top of all of the above. Any bare metal or previously coated sections just scuff up with 400 grit paper and clean with PRE painting prep and apply.

I will be using your rust encapsulator and internal frame rust encapsulator. Can I use 2K primer over each of these products? If yes do I scuff encapsulator before 2K primer? Thanks. Your products and videos are great.

Asked by: Benny
Yes, any of our primers excluding Self Etching primer can be applied over top of the products in reference. You would need to scuff up the surface with 400 grit first.

Rust Encapsulator for Auto Repair

Stop rust in its tracks! Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is ideal for parts on project cars that have started to rust, but would be very difficult to replace or fabricate. Simply spray it onto springs, frames, panels and other parts. On properly prepared surfaces that are free of oil and grease, this product seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading. But it performs even better than our original formula. In fact, our black Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance! It will also prevent new rust from forming so your parts will remain strong.

Stronger Than Ever

If you thought it was good before, wait until you try the newest version of our great anti-rust spray. We fortify our over-rust aerosol with an epoxy that helps it stick to the metal and also helps topcoat paints adhere to the encapsulator. Or you can leave it as is for a cool OEM-black look on your suspension or chassis. The latest formulation is strongly heat-resistant to handle the high operating temperatures of a vehicle and will cure quickly so you can resume your project work.

Outperforms the Competition

When tested against well-known brands, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in resisting sunlight, preventing rust creep and promoting overall durability. And by using a spray can, you can get to the nooks and crannies that are prone to rusting yet are hard to completely cover with a brush or paint gun. Buy it together with our 1-quart cans of heavy-duty anti-rust and you'll have a full solution to stop rust from eating away at your ride. Eastwood's 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee means you can shop with confidence every time you visit.

  • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
  • 15 oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.

About Eastwood Rust Encapsulator Black Aerosol 15 ounce

Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has been tested by an independent lab to be the most effective protection from rust yet. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability. One 15 oz. net wt. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft. Contains no isocyanates. Heat resistant up to 400' F. Made in the USA.

One 15 ounce net wt. aerosol, enough to cover up to 10 square feet.

Heavy-duty Anti Rust Qt. (16017 Z P) is actually superior for applying into blind areas such as box sections where little or no surface prep can be done.

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Work in a well ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator like our Professional Respirator (34029) is recommended when applying this coating. Shake vigorously for 2 mins before spraying !!

Made in the USA.

Wire Brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint. Remove dust, grease, oil deposits. Shake can for at least 2 mins after mixing ball starts to rattle. Feather surrounding paint with 220 grit sandpaper. Apply Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" from surface. Single coats dry to the touch in 20 minutes and are thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degrees F. For greater durability a second coat can be applied one hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after last coat before applying top coat. See can label for more details.

Accessories & Consumables

In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections. Buy 3 or more quart cans and save!
