Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great and looks great! Used both the liquid quart and two spray cans to completely detail the front suspension, front subframe, firewall, and inner fenders of a 1967 Pontiac Firebird 400 show car I am rebuilding. Came out great! While I had the front suspension disassembled to switch to front disc brake spindles, I scraped everything down to bare metal and treated it with Rust Dissolver, then I wiped everything down twice with PRE bare metal cleaner. I used the spray cans to paint all the pieces I removed from the car, and used foam brushes to apply the liquid quart to all the pieces still on the car in order to avoid spray paint overspray on the car and in my garage. Using the foam brushes to apply the liquid quart (about 1/4 quart left) was time consuming and hard on the foam brushes (don't use cheapies like I did!), but it looks great and has a surprising amount of gloss for being labeled Matte Black finish. And the parts I sprayed with the spray cans (both now gone) match very well! A little pricey, but well worth it and highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Provides good coverage I'm using this product as I complete my restoration of a '65 Mustang. I used the rust encapsulator on areas that were tough to get to and on small parts that I removed and soaked in rust dissolver. Seems to provide good coverage but time will tell.

my lawn tractor mower has rust under where the grass has removed paint, which product would work best

Is this saying I can NOT undercoat on top of this after it drys??? "yes, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust"

Asked by: Bill
You can apply Undercoating over top of the Rust Encapsulator, just allow 24 hours for the Rust Encapsulator to dry, and than a scuff the surface with a scuff pad and apply your top coat.

I have a small sailboat with a retractable centerboard that needs to resealed. I have ground off all the previous paint and rust but there a few small areas that show slight pitting. Would Eastwood Encapsulator followed by epoxy primer do the trick?

Asked by: Sailor Tom
Our Encapsulator is a great way to lock down the rust prior to applying our Epoxy primer. We simply recommend waiting approximately 24 hours after applying the Encapsulator before putting down Epoxy.

I'm restoring an old tractor. Many of the parts are pitted with rust. After blasting them with aluminum oxide the pits still look dirty. What do you recommend?

Asked by: John
A lot of times for such an application we will cover the part with our Encapsulator, let it cure, and then come back and sand flat back to bare metal. This will leave our Encapsulator down in the pits before you begin to paint.

What is the coverage area of a quart if spray and if brushed.

Asked by: James D
A quart is roughly 35 SQ FT of coverage. Slightly less if sprayed as you inevitably get overspray which is waste but get a super smooth finish.

I am wanting to coat the underneath of my 68 skylark. Will the aerosol can work if I spray it from underneath or should I go with the brush on type?

Asked by: Eab1968
If you're forced to work on jack stands the brush on would probably be best but if you are up on a lift it might be easier to use the spray can.

I wanted to use this to stop the rust and coat a rusty oil pan. I was going to use your rust converter but it looks like the temperature of the rust converter is not quite high enough. Will this work on an oil pan?

Asked by: Chris
This product will be perfectly fine to use on an oil pan since it shouldn't be able to reach 400F. Just thoroughly clean the metal with our Pre Paint prep prior to paint.

Rust Encapsulator for Auto Repair

Stop rust in its tracks! Eastwood Rust Encapsulator is ideal for parts on project cars that have started to rust, but would be very difficult to replace or fabricate. Simply spray it onto springs, frames, panels and other parts. On properly prepared surfaces that are free of oil and grease, this product seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading. But it performs even better than our original formula. In fact, our black Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance! It will also prevent new rust from forming so your parts will remain strong.

Stronger Than Ever

If you thought it was good before, wait until you try the newest version of our great anti-rust spray. We fortify our over-rust aerosol with an epoxy that helps it stick to the metal and also helps topcoat paints adhere to the encapsulator. Or you can leave it as is for a cool OEM-black look on your suspension or chassis. The latest formulation is strongly heat-resistant to handle the high operating temperatures of a vehicle and will cure quickly so you can resume your project work.

Outperforms the Competition

When tested against well-known brands, Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in resisting sunlight, preventing rust creep and promoting overall durability. And by using a spray can, you can get to the nooks and crannies that are prone to rusting yet are hard to completely cover with a brush or paint gun. Buy it together with our 1-quart cans of heavy-duty anti-rust and you'll have a full solution to stop rust from eating away at your ride. Eastwood's 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee means you can shop with confidence every time you visit.

Features:

  • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
  • 15 oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.
  • As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

FAQ's

Rust Encapsulator can be applied with the Undercoating System, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the Heavy Duty Anti-Rust (16017ZP). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds & through rust to seal surface from contact with moisture & air, but cannot be painted over so is only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.
