Duty Cycle

The Rated Duty Cycle refers to the amount of welding that can be done within an amount of time. The Eastwood TIG 200 has a duty cycle of 60% at 190 Amps. It is easiest to look at your welding time in blocks of 10 Minutes and the Duty Cycle being a percentage of that 10 Minutes. If welding at 190 Amps with a 60% Duty Cycle, within a 10 Minute block of time you can weld for 6 Minutes with 4 Minutes of cooling for the welder. To increase the Duty Cycle you can turn down the Amperage Output control. Going above 190 Amps will yield a lower duty cycle.

What is TIG Welding?

The Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) process is the most effective way to weld thin ferrous metals (steel, stainless steel, iron, etc.) as well as non-ferrous metals (e.g. aluminum, copper, nickel). We’ve developed affordable TIG welding machines that are powerful, easy-to-use and portable. Our TIG Welder Guide will help new and experienced fabricators select the right welder.

What to Look for in a TIG Welder

• Best TIG Welder for Beginners: A multi-Process machine like the Eastwood Elite MP140i is a multi-process welder that does TIG welding on steel up to 3/16-inch thick (or ¼-inch with the optional spool gun). Plus it allows you to MIG and Stick weld, making it a very versatile unit. Multi-Process, or MP machines, are also available in other, larger sizes for welding thicker metals.

• Intermediate TIG Welding: For more experienced bodyworkers, the Eastwood TIG 200 DC is perfect for welding steel and stainless up to ¼-inch thick. If you also need to weld aluminum, check out the TIG 200 AC/DC welder. For reference a DCmachine welds steel and stainless while an AC/DC machine not only welds steel and stainless but also aluminum.

• Advanced TIG Welding: Are you a skilled TIGwelder who needs as many controls and features as possible for the best performance? Then check out the TIG200 AC/DC Digital Welder that offers Pulse, 2T/4T Modes, AC Frequency Control and programmable settings.

Eastwood provides a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty and lifetime tech support for all of our DIY welders. Browse the Tech Library or Eastwood Garage for expert tips about TIG welding and what to look for in your equipment. We’ve been an automotive restoration and customization leader since 1978.

Application Tips

Best AC/DC TIG Welder

A 200-amp Eastwood TIG welder is the most affordable way for mechanics and other metal workers to get excellent welds on all of their projects. This AC/DC TIG welder uses a tungsten electrode to heat metals and joins them together without becoming part of the finished weld, reducing splatter and mess. The AC mode is used for aluminum, while the DC mode can be used to weld steel and stainless steel in tube, sheet or bar stock form, offering incredible versatility in a skilled set of hands. A stick-weld feature is available as well for use in outdoor conditions or on dirty metals.

Our team has designed this machine to be easy for beginners to use while still offering the capabilities that advanced welders need. It has a straightforward control panel for setting your arc, amperage and mode. The AC/DC adapter cord makes it a cinch to switch between modes. Our portable TIG welders weigh just 45 pounds so you can load them into a car, truck or trailer and bring them wherever you're needed.

Eastwood Tig 200 ACDC Welder

A Complete TIG Welding Package

Anyone with a power source of 110 to 240 volts can power the Eastwood TIG200 Welder for spot welding or fabrication on metals thick and thin. You'll get precise welds thanks to the high-frequency instant start and square-wave AC inverter that assist with control and accuracy. It is rated for a duty cycle of 60 percent at normal amperage, meaning you can weld until the job is finished.

Everything is included with this welder for doing excellent welding straight out of the box. In addition to the AC/DC TIG welder, you'll receive a shielding gas regulator and hose (gas tanks sold separately), a Flex Head WP-17 Series TIG torch that uses industry-standard consumables, several sizes of gas nozzles and collets, two tungsten rods, a gas flow meter, rocker style foot pedal for improved precision and much more. Eastwood backs each welder with a 3-year warranty and our 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee.

Eastwood TIG 200 ACDC Welder

Eastwood 200-Amp TIG AC/DC Welder

Advanced DIY fabricators and professional body shop technicians can count on the TIG 200 for their automotive restoration work. These AC/DC welders do precise, clean welds on mild steel and stainless up to ¼-inch thick. Use our TIG welders for aluminum thanks to the square-wave inverter or switch to the stick welding mode for additional versatility. The 120V/240V adapter cord makes it easy to switch between AC and DC power supplies.

From aluminum sheets and steel tubes to bar stock, the Eastwood TIG 200 will Do the Job Right. Each portable AC/DC TIG welder has a long WP-17-type torch, gas lens kit, rocker-style foot pedal and ground cables to navigate any project. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best tig welder I bought this for my step son for Christmas to teach him how to tig weld so I have not tried it out yet, but myself being a welder for 45 years and just retired I really like the looks of this tig welder. It looks very well made , love that flex head torch and I like the feel of the foot pedal . Will update my review after after we try it out in a few weeks, can't wait to try it out. I also love that its American made with their full support team ready to help you out if needed, that alone is priceless !!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If you’re checking the reviews and on the fence… just do it. A no nonsense down to business machine that can handle business without overwhelming a beginner. I’m fairly well versed in MIG and ARC, but went into TIG with a bunch of time learning on YouTube and a basic understanding. It took no time at all and I was getting it figured out pretty well, and after a few hours was welding pieces together with confidence that it would be more than sufficient in strength. If you’re on the fence, just do it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Seems to be a very nice machine so far! I bought this a couple weeks ago, low miles so far. First job was a couple 20" long outside corner joints on 304 SS, no problem! This morning I had to try some aluminum, nice! .130 thick 6061 and for now I'm running it plugged into a 120V outlet! For the price I think I have a winner for my use!

Questions & Answers

What is the AC balance setting?

Asked by: Phal
The AC balance setting on the Eastwood 200 Amp AC/DC TIG welder allows you to adjust the ratio of cleaning action to penetration during AC TIG welding. This setting controls the amount of time the current spends in the electrode

Is this a scratch start machine

Asked by: Ryan
The TIG 200 AC/DC does not use a scratch start method. Instead, it is equipped with a foot pedal and a trigger to initiate the arc, providing greater control and precision during welding.

can the tig 200 ac dc tig use a hand controller instead of a foot control ?

Asked by: kguill670
This unit can be run either on foot control (with the use of the foot pedal included upon purchase) or via panel control (with the use of the torch assembly and buttons on the face of the unit). We do not offer a truly finger controllable torch at this time.

If i'm reading this correctly, this machine only does AC Tig. Am I right to assume such?

Asked by: Ken P
This is an AC/DC unit so it uses the AC side for Aluminum welding and the DC side for steel, stainless etc.

I found today that the new upgraded tig 200 has been upgraded with the socket for stick welding which i was adding to my welder. Id appreciate if you can tell me if there is something else to modify besides installing the socket to invert polarity.

Asked by: PZD1
You can swap the ground lead and stick electrode holder to reverse polarity, the connectors are the same..
