Get the best performance and value on DIY light metal fab by choosing an Eastwood welder. The Eastwood MIG 140 is the new-and-improved version of our popular MIG 135 welder that's perfect for sheet metal or even for beginners who want to start with light metal fab. The R&D guys have updated it to the latest IGBT inverter technology. This allows you do to the same high-quality welding on thin mild steel and stainless steel with a welder that weighs less than 25 pounds. That makes it easy to bring your welder to a project. Other new features include separate 2T/4T modes for long welds, a tack weld setting for hanging body panels and a metal drive motor that runs super-smoothly.

The high quality welds in sheet metal and thin steel as well as the overall performance matches and often exceeds more expensive MIG welders. This unit comes with a Tweco-style torch, gas regulator and consumables for MIG welding up to 3/16-inch thick. You can even add a spool gun to weld aluminum (item 20172). Guides & Accessories

Instructions

This machine has smart wire feeding technology to prevent forcing excessive wire into the start of the weld. When the machine is not welding and feeding wire, it will feed wire at a slow fixed speed for approximately five seconds, and then speed up to max speed. This is to quickly feed wire through the torch. Once the machine senses that it is welding it will automatically run at the preset wire speed that the user has set on the machine. Do not be alarmed when the wire feeds slowly while not welding.

Safety Information

Welding fumes and gasses can be hazardous to your health. Arc Rays can injure your eyes and burn your skin. Wear correct eye, ear, and body protection. Do not touch live electrical components! Keep your head out of the fumes. Wear breathing protection when welding.

Accessories

Weld Aluminum with a Spool Gun

Many cars and trucks have aluminum parts, or you may need to weld aluminum for a metal fabrication project, and with a spool gun you can weld 14-gauge to 1/8-inch aluminum. Quickly and easily connect or remove it as needed for working on different parts and panels. The spool gun is sold separately and is a great addition to your MIG 140 and you can check out item 20172 here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Eastwood 140 a great welder for beginners as well as pros!! Just got rid of a $100 stick welder & $110 MiG welder flux only! I really considered them both battery chargers no welders. Picked up the Eastwood 140 & WOW!! Wonderful! Ran with shielding gas! Welded in all new floor pans on my truck with ease! Great welder giving it 5 stars

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light and easy to use I bought the 140 welder a couple of months ago and I've put it through the paces this last week on a large auto sheet metal project. It's light and easy to move, provides steady wire, and the settings are dead on. I think the only thing I'd suggest to Eastwood is to move the brass inlet for gas down about an inch to clear the top of the enclosure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WHY did I wait so long to buy this!?!?! I have owned a cheaper flux core welder for several years and have been doing odd projects successfully, but with pretty nasty results...forcing me to grind the heck out of the project. I recently bought this guy after seeing a sale and a coupon. I jokingly bought it around my wife's birthday so I call this welder HER welder. My first time using this welder was for a project to fix my truck. The gas tank sprung a leak from rubbing on a rusted out brace. After 26 years a good portion of the brace was completely rusted away, and that brace is used to hold the tank up. I used 16 gauge sheet metal to fabricate a similar piece of what was missing. I also welded on 1/8 x2" x16" flat bar to the frame to reconstitute the thinning frame. NOTE: I haven't bought a AG/CO2 tank yet, so still using flux core wire. But did buy this wire ( ARCCAPTAIN E71T-GS .030" 2-Pound Spool Gasless Carbon Steel Mig Welding Wire) I followed the recommendations on the inner panel for the 16 gauge metal and was simply blown away on the difference. I am not a good welder (really need a class), but was VERY satisfied with how well I was doing with a stitch style welding. I tried the TACK setting but found that for what I was doing the time was too short, so went with 2T. The sound of the arc was noticeably different and pleasant.. You could tell when you were in clean metal and rusty metal and I barely blew through the rusty metal and was able to fill in the holes with some patience. Next was the thinning frame, I took a piece of 1/8"x2"x16 " flat bar, drilled 1/4" holes every 2" in a line about 1/4" away from the edge, then did a second line of 1/4" holes on the other edge. The set the machine up for the thicker material and started welding. I actually turned down the speed a bit as I felt it was a little too fast for my skill set...here too I went with stitch welding (my confidence and skills stink). Filled the 1/4" holes with several seconds of trigger pull. and welded the edges too. Again, simply super happy with the results and ease of this little guy.I could have used this welder for the bed sheet metal repair. Buy it !! you won't be disappointed. NOTE: the wire feed speed when loading the wire is funky. You pull the trigger and it slowly comes out for about a 3 seconds THEN it comes out at about 5 mph!! That is, apparently, totally normal. Tech support stated that there is circuitry that measures resistance or whatever so that when you actually start welding the speed corresponds to the dial....it does.

Is the use of pure argon gas a must when using the spool gun for aluminum? What happens if one uses the 75-25% gas on aluminum?

Asked by: Keith
Yes, you need to use 100% Argon for Aluminum to get proper shielding effect. If you use 75/25 your results will be horrible, as if you were welding with no gas at all.
