I applied this product to a rocker panel. After 24 hours I was going to put another coat. I used pre to clean the panel and the product started to come off. I was able to completely rub off the product with pre. Is this normal?

Asked by: Vlad
Since the Rust Encapsulator is not a catalyzed product this is completely normal. If another coat is desired all you simply need to do is scuff the surface and blow the dust off before moving on.

Can I use the black textured encapsulator and then spray this as a topcoat for it? Thinking it would be good on rockers and can corners.

Asked by: Moparguy85
This product could certainly be used over top of our textured rust Encapsulator.

I used etching primer on a bumper can I apply this encapsulating paint over the etching primer? Thanks for your time

Asked by: Brian1971
The Rust Encapsulator should not be placed over self etch primer.

I watched your video. I am not sure I get it right. If I use this product does it remove the rust area and also add the silver color? or should I remove the dust first and then apply this one. Thanks

Asked by: Sina
This product is designed to spray directly onto the rust.. It will seal and convert it into a stable surface and leave a silver finish.

Can you put body filler over it or should you fix a hole first then treat the area . Also does the silver Rust Encapsulator come in quarts , Thank you very much !

Asked by: Tommy El
Holes should be repaired prior to putting down Encapsulator. The silver is only in spray cans.

After grinding the rust can i apply directly the encapsulator or should i clean the surface with another product? Also, If i'll send you a picture of the rusted part can you advise me on what product(s) should i use?

Asked by: bebel
It is definitely recommended that you clean the area first with a product such as PRE. However, you can apply the encapsulator without cleaning first.

Stop rust in its tracks! Our Silver Rust Encapsulator has been reformulated with TWICE the corrosion resistance!

  • Twice the corrosion resistance of our original formula for greater durability (tested to 500 hours in a salt-spray chamber)
  • Epoxy-fortified for better adhesion and topcoat compatibility
  • Penetrates deeper to prevent rust from spreading or forming, even in hard-to-reach areas
  • Cures faster, and the low-VOC formula is acceptable in California
  • 15-oz. aerosol covers about 10 sq. ft.
  • As seen on "My Classic Car" TV show

You thought it was good before...wait ’til you try this Rust Encapsulator! It seals and stops rust and corrosion from spreading, but it performs even better than our original formula. Tested against well-known brands, the Eastwood Rust Encapsulator has proven to be superior in sunlight resistance, preventing rust creep, and overall durability.

About Eastwood Silver Rust Encapsulator 15oz Aerosol

Low 3-5% gloss Silver Rust Encapsulator. As easy to apply and as durable as our popular Red and Black. Perfect under metallic and gray finishes.

Use a wire brush to remove loose rust, scale and paint, and remove dust, grease and oil deposits. Feather surrounding paint with 220-grit sandpaper. Shake can for at least 2 minutes once the mixing ball starts to rattle. Hold the Rust Encapsulator can 10-12" above surface as you spray. A single coat dries to the touch in 20 minutes, and is thoroughly dry in 3-4 hours at 68 degreesF. For greater durability, a second coat can be applied 1 hour after the first. Allow 6-8 hours after the last coat before applying topcoat. Use over or under body fillers.

In places where little or no surface prep can be done, our 16017ZP Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (Qt.) is actually a better choice for applying into blind areas such as box sections.

(Q) Can Rust Encapsulator be applied with the Undercoating System?
(A) Technically, yes, but this application isn't recommended because Rust Encapsulator requires surface to be free of grease, oil, and loose rust. The best product to coat inside box sections is the 16017ZP Heavy-Duty Anti-Rust (Qt.). This waxy, oily product flows into pinch welds and through rust to seal surfaces from contact with moisture and air, but cannot be painted over, so it's only suitable for inside box sections that don't show. Use lacquer thinner for cleanup.

Work in a well-ventilated area when applying this product. The use of a respirator is recommended. Shake vigorously for 2 minutes before spraying.
