Reviews

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Stuff Works well but only when using the right size tip. I've struggled with anything less than a 2.5. I've also learned that the fresher, the easier to spray and I only had a 30 minute spray time before I had to clean my gun. The downside is that it's pricy. However, it's actually a bit cheaper than other brands

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best, but $$$$ Great Product, a very fast system. Pot life is short. 1.8 Tip, 30-35 PSI, cheapo China primer gum. Cut with 8% acetone, helps flow, slows drying speed and lays better. I thought it was crazy, using acetone to slow it down but it does make a significant difference. Without the cut, you'd need a 2.0 or 2.5 tip. Easy to sand / block, nice product, but $$$$.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first time using a primer surfacer Restoring a 66 C10 for my son. We have been doing everything ourselves including the paint. I sprayed this in a few small parts to try it out and wow! Yes, it's thick and needs to be thinned out a bit, but it sands beautifully with 400 grit. I had a few pinholes in my filler that I didn't notice until I started spraying and they filled right in. The panels a turning out laser straight and smooth. Cant wait to get some paint on them.

Questions & Answers

Contour Primer is loading up 220g sand paper something awful. Is this common?

Asked by: Dane
220Grit paper loads up fairly quickly We are introducing a system where the paper will last significantly longer. https://www.eastwood.com/eastwood-elite-contour-dsb-dustless-sanding-block-system.html

From what I’ve read, I do not need to apply a sealer over this. But I’ve also read that some apply a 2K primer over it as a final step before paint. What is the benefit of doing this? Is it better to do this or not?

Asked by: Bkoogs
Being that this is a sealer and is ready for paint. Usually the best way forward is to apply a 2K primer prior to paint. A. the spray nozzle on the 2K replicates the pattern of a spray gun and is the best primer prior to applying a top coat.

You may have to scuff up the surface to insure adhesion.

I wound up taking my hood, roof, and trunk down to bare metal. Do i need to spray those sections with an etching or epoxy before using this high build?

Asked by: Area52
I would use either a paint prep to start then an etch, or epoxy before the high build. Eastwood Pre Painting Prep Aerosol 11oz Eastwood Self-Etch Primer Black for Automotive Car Paint Eastwood Black Epoxy Primer and Catalyst for Automotive Car Paint

Sprayed 3 coats (all the same mix) on pedal car, can I put it our powder coat oven for short time and low temp to make sure fully cured?

Asked by: Bill
You can use an powder coat oven at very low temperature, not enough to get the metal hot. Leave it in for 5 hours. I'd prefer to let it cure in a warm ventilated room.

2 questions. I have bought 2 different brands of this type of primer (one was yours). Both were rubber in the can by the time I opened it a year later. Whats the shelf life on this stuff un-opened.  What do I use to thin this by 20% for spraying?

Asked by: Bob1
I believe shelf life is 1 year, less than that if opened/exposed to outside air. The instruction sheet says: "...this product may be reduced by 5-10% with acetone to improve pot life, flow-out and dry to sand time..."

I have a LT100 with a 1.7 tip and a big compressor, can I paint this primer with that gun? how much reducer I need? what kind of reducer I need?

Asked by: HaoFue Jin
I've haven't had a decent spray application with anything smaller than a 2.5mm tip. I've thined with acetone to get it through a 1.7 tip but it still wasn't a great spray. I bought a cheap gun with a 2.5, removed the strainer from the gun and it worked great. The stuff will set up quick so don't waste time getting the application done and getting your gun cleaned
